I don't really care what someone wants to use as their avatar, it's just a picture of something they like or find amusing etc. I also try not to judge someones post based on their avatars either, though it is sometimes difficult in certain posters cases

The only issue I have sometimes, are those anime avatars that have extremely under aged looking characters, usually females and in sexualised poses, very skimpy clothing etc.

Anyway... I look at this thread and see people say anime is dumb and kids shows, ect. or creepy porn. It really shows you haven't watched any anime or very little of it. SUre there are these examples that you are referring to, but even if I have watched lot of anime, I have never bothered to watch these said things. I look for good storylines, cool characters, ect. Seriously, I rarely watch any western series these days. They are completely overdone. The stories are practically same and very predictable and often include these crappy scenes of fucking and characters sucking each others face. Why? Just to show how succesful and manly/feminine they are that they are having sex or something. Seriously I see more sex in western stuff than in anime. I'm not interested. I want stories and not fucking or predictable storylines. Good (noticed this word) anime feel fresh. They still got the "spark". The thing that makes watching them interesting.

I don't seem to be alone. People want to watch good anime. They become fans. They start using cool avatars.

I found nothing especially wrong with beach episodes, but even on animes that I like (Railgun and Index) I would prefer that some characters keep their clothes on. (Railgun is not an especially fanservice show, I know)

Anime is just weird to me. And I don't mean no offense, I'm sure theres shit I like that people would find weird as well. And generally speaking everyone I encountered with an anime avatar seems like some crazy fuck with weird outlooks on society.

But the thing is, i'm not even a big anime fan. I like everything. Literally. There's not a brand of entertainment, music, or pop culture that I dislike.

I was like every boy growing up. I watched DragonBall Z. A few animes on toonami caught my eye (Yu Yu Hakusho, Ruroni Kenshin etc.)

I discovered gems on Adult Swim during my teenage years (Ghost in the Shell, Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, etc.)

And now I just watch them on occasion. Fairy Tail was kind of a phase, but I still catch up on the Manga once every blue moon. Apart from that, I just read Attack On Titan.
