Anime hate is a thing in Japan, too. Otakus are almost universally reviled.

Hardcore otaku are, anime is not.
Plenty of mainstream shows, Sazea-san(longest running animation series in the world), Shin-chan etc...

I found nothing especially wrong with beach episodes, but even on animes that I like (Railgun and Index) I would prefer that some characters keep their clothes on. (Railgun is not an especially fanservice show, I know)
