Goth loli was good, but Diesel-chan was besto though. With Ema being a very close second.

I liked Diesel-san, Zuka and Ema a lot. And Miyamori too. I think only the CG girl wasn't even remotely on par with the rest.

Which SAO novels were the good ones? Progressive?

I like Mother's Rosario the most.

SAO novels are about permeation of VR, the line between what's real and what's not... with some rocky parts. SAO Progressive manga is a fairly simple action shounen.

I tend to favor gene manipulation, but that's the biologist in me.

As a regular expressions fanatic I hate to see people do inefficient text search and replaces.

Regular expressions (in Perl) allowed me to do mass changes to 3 versions of VB6 software with millions of lines of code in each version in seconds, and let me roll out changes in seconds again when the requirements changed!

(It took me about an hour to write the script, it would have taken developers weeks to make the changes manually)
