So today I heard in the radio that the top 5 of most grossing movies of all time is
1. Avatar
2. Titanic
3. The Force Awakens
4. Jurassic World
5. The Avengers
Apparently the Batman V Superman film is about to jump on this list they said... so... when I heard that, I just kept thinking; I really hope Warcraft will blow people away and get on this list! I mean come on, the CGI Motion Capture is an evolved Avatar quality and we all know how amazing the lore of Warcraft is and their characters. I really hope it won't just be known as an "video game movie", but rather as an masterpiece! Pls
last day of the month trailer today or when might they plan to release it ?
Hello, /u/nano1895 here. Yes, I did use sharpening to highlight the detail in the CGI. But two things, first of all it's not like I photoshopped the hell out of this. If you compare these images with the trailer version you can download they are very similar, I literally just moved the sharpen filter by ~5% so you can see the detail in the CGI. Thats all I did. If the CGI wasn't this detailed already then sharpening wouldn't reveal any more detail it would just make it look worse. For example, in the pic of Durotan roaring when I sharpened it I noticed you could see little strands of hair on his back, before I didn't. In another case I was able to see little rashes/skin blemishes on Durotan that I didn't notice immediately before. Now did that CGI hair strands and skin rashes magically appear out of nowhere when I sharpened it a little? No. It was already there, now you can just see it better. If you compare the screenshot from the Warcraft trailer I downloaded you will see how they are similar i[dot]imgur[dot]com/FHyBsFa[dot]png, thats from the trailer no sharpening effect so they are very similar.
The sharpening can make the CGI more detailed but at the lower resolution quality theres only so much you can do without sacrificing visual quality in other areas, I posted this album because I think at the very least we can expect from the theaters and in blu-ray that type of CGI detail and everything else (without having the background be weird) naturally at higher resolution without some random amateur like me using free effects.
The point is, yes, some of the background stuff looks wonky. But with FREE editing effects you can clearly see the visual quality in the CGI. So I would think the people who are paid to actually edit this will be able to make this alot better when its actually released in theaters.

See, thing is, the huge majority of people don't care about fantasy. At all. The reason LotR was so successful is that it showed something people haven't seen. And now our orcs and whatnots wont impress them. So don't expect grand box office results (expect less than a billion), more than 2-3 Oscar nominations and at max. 1 win, and more than a 60% approval rating from critics (not that their opinion matters the least bit). That's my prognosis.
Edit: Why is everyone under the impression they're releasing the second trailer one of these days?
duncan jones said on twitter he belived the second trailer was due this month 2 weeks ago .
You're not getting what I'm saying. Sure plenty of people care about it. However, there's even more people who're completely unmoved by fantasy. No matter how good the story may be. A fantasy movie wont gross you 2 billion. Not anymore. I was only trying to tell the dude to rein in his expectations, since he seems to be under the impression this movie can get on the Top 5 list. Don't get me wrong, I'd love that. I just don't think it's remotely realistic.
I think they're going to be super sneaky to inflate the the box office gross. This whole "Ultimate Movie" package got me thinking stuff like 3D, IMax, est all add a few bucks to the ticket sales and the highest grossing movies don't match the highest attended movies, literal bums in seats because of this.
So what if Blizzard practically gave away the game with an inflated movie ticket price for an even larger box office gross? I still doubt it would be top 5 or even top 10 of all time but still it would help.
Warcraft's a pretty big franchise, though. Probably best selling fantasy. It's been around since the 90s. People that played Warcraft 1/2 might want to see it, as well as people that play it today. That's some 26 years of history spread across multiple generations.
I think it'll do well, though not on the level of Avatar.
