^That, exactly that^ ... Maybe your non-alpha players wouldn't be so salty if MMO-C or Blizz had some news about LIVE servers every now and then... But that would require content.
It's basically turned into this: "Hey, here's a bright and shiny new toy" ... "You can't play with it though, you get to play with that same worn out one, but here's all the info on how much fun we're having with the new one"...
Tell the live player base about what's going on on live.. When we can all agree that there's nothing new going on there.. then we're at least acknowledging there's an issue.
On topic: Closing down a private server that is keeping some of the wow player base motivated and interested in WoW/Blizzard (while no new live content is being offered) seems counter-productive to a good business model.
