If you don't consider the education an engineer needs to be an engineer formal scientific training, I don't know what formal scientific training is. And you don't either.

I would say to understand the complex mechanics of climate/weather, you would need something like physics, hydrodynamics or glaciology. It's not an easy field- requires very specialized knowledge you wouldn't find in an engineering program.

    I accept your apology.

If you don't think engineers learn physics, chemistry, and hydrodynamics, you don't know what an engineer learns in college. Being an engineer is like being a scientist, but your experiments are testing practical things you build. You need to know physics/chem/everything else you can imagine, because you need that knowledge to build things. Seriously, what do you think an engineer does? Drive a train? Wrong type of engineer.

Nice edit: If you don't think an engineer can read technical studies and form an opinion on things using their training as an engineer, you're clueless. There's no apology, because you're wrong.

Sure, you require a working knowledge of all the fields. The key word here is specialized knowledge. There is an a similar thread around here about 97% of scientists believe in climate change. But that number is misleading. They are very few scientists who have a deep background in geophysics who are qualified to offer an opinion, and those scientists, as far as I know, are split. We simply don't know if humanity is responsible for climate change, or if our climate is just changing. We absolutely could be responsible, but are more likely just compounding the effects of a natural climatic shift.

Also, something you may not know that is fact is, for now at least, climate change is beneficial.

You don't know very far, as you've already demonstrated in this thread. If you think you need specialized knowledge that engineers don't have, you're wrong. Also, geophysics is geology by other means. It's not even the specialization for studying climate change. You're just demonstrating more ignorance here. Again, if you don't think an engineer can read studies and evaluate them based on merits, you're wrong.

When this era is over she will one of the examples they will talk about in schools highlighting people for the most part a dumb and will believe anyone on a stage will say as long as they agree with them on another subject like abortion.

I learned physics, chemistry, and hydrodynamics in uni. I also apply them in my work. Along other areas of formal scientific training. I need to conduct experiments here and there. I form hypothesis, test them, and arrive at conclusions. And I need to read understand and apply very involved scientific papers periodically.
I could specialize in some research areas that would naturally grant me the label scientist, but I'm yet to meet anyone that would call an architect a scientist for the mere fact of being an architect.

I think we're clear that Palin's statement is, at best, misleading.
However, the rationalization that puts engineers squarely within the identity label of scientist, is precisely the vector she's exploiting. After all, she has a degree on some social science, right?.

Well she is right in the context. Bill Nye is as much a climate scientist as she is. He's mechanical engineer, she's a politician. So they are equally not climate scientists.
All right, gentleperchildren, let's review. The year is 2024 - that's two-zero-two-four, as in the 21st Century's perfect vision - and I am sorry to say the world has become a pussy-whipped, Brady Bunch version of itself, run by a bunch of still-masked clots ridden infertile senile sissies who want the Last Ukrainian to die so they can get on with the War on China, with some middle-eastern genocide on the side

They're not mutually exclusive, Sarah. You can be both. Kind of like how you're both a former governor and a nincompoop.
I could think of other things to call her to be honest, like a hypocritical retard, a redneck, yokle, Hick, tool, stooge, etc etc.

I wonder if Bill Nye has as much imitation pornography about him as Sarah Palin does about her?

Sarah Palin doesn't wear a white coat for the drooling masses though. That's an important part of their conditioning.

I dodge Palin like I dodge anal warts. Her voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard. And the stupid that she writes and says can drive one mad.

And this message is just like those people that sit around on their couch watching Honey Booboo, texting their friends about how stupid that family is in order to stroke their own ego and seek validation for their own miserable and pointless existence.

I don't get your point honestly.

I couldn't care less about Honey BooBoo and whatever else reality TV manages to come up with today. Nor is it really relevant.

On the other hand this pathetic excuse for a human being also known as Sarah Palin actually seems to represent a political current with a following, one that in all seriousness intends to shove their stupid nonsense down everyone's throats by demanding to be taken seriously.

They shouldn't be. They should be called out and despised and laughed out of the room because they are simply fucking stupid.

I find it interesting that people can come out in support of minorities - except when a minority says something they don't like.

As long as there are people that disagree with AGW, the discussion and science should continue in a reasonable way. We should dispense with name-calling and pitchforks. The 3% should be given just as much respect as the 97%. This goes for both sides of the issue. I do not think it benefits anyone saying that global warming is a hoax, nor do I think it benefits anyone to silence dissenting opinions.
