Utah Declares Porn A Public Health Hazard

Just when you thought you seen it all... lol

    http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-w...-health-hazard

    Utah.. of all states..

I could get behind some type of limitations/regulations.... but that's just plain stupid, imo.

To be fair, porn is unhealthy. Health Hazard though seems mildly over the top though.

Its typical utah with the mormon church asserting its will over politics.

Too many repressed mormons are watching porn and the church wants to stop it.

Doesn't the magic underwear protect them against porn?
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

So you have never once seen studies suggesting watching porn leaves you less motivated to find actual physical interaction with the opposite sex, leaves you with unrealistic expectations towards sex, and can hamper your ability to finish during sex? Or that it makes you seek more socially unacceptable and deviant forms of sex? Not to mention slowly influencing your view towards women?

I would think that its more of a health hazard to not have porn!
It would be fun to see if any scientific evidence they have of this.

There's actually quite a few studies that point out that excessive use can screw with your brain. Basically kills your dopamine receptors(or something) by flooding them with too much of the chemical and mastburation lacks a lot of the chemicals that come along with actual sex effectively creating the same sort of addiction response for a lot of other activities like gambling or alochol. Same extreme use can also impact your ability to get it up with a real woman in a long term relationship because the Coolidge effect gets kicked into hyperdrive with Porn. The Coolidge effect is basically training our brain to be excited by novelty, which when you can probably surf for days straight and never see the same girl twice.

Some porn is just fine, but excessive use can defiantly cause issues. All things in moderation.

Yes, there are several studies about porn addictions, more so now than ever before due to the massive amounts of free porn on the internet. May not be what you want to hear but there are many scientific studies on it. It goes along the lines of being addicted to porn but the brain becomes use to the chemicals porn releases so the person in question has to keep looking for harder and harder versions of porn to even get stimulated to the point that they are incapable of getting aroused by their wives/husbands. Also in the mormon faith you are supposed to have sex to produce children, not sex for fun or self enjoyment.

It may not give you a heart attack of give you lung cancer but if you are so addicted that you spend 16 hours a day looking at porn and not taking care of your other needs then it becomes detrimental to your health, and that is not even to mention a porn addicts mental health.

Too much of anything is bad.

Porns been around for a while, and people are still fucking.

Also... studies are pretty BS.... who hasn't watched porn? You need a group that watches and does not watch to have a real study..... and there is a huge problem with that.

In my opinion, a lot of scientific studies around porn are looking for a certain result, so they find it.

Porn has been around forever, and acting like masturbation itself is the cause of all these issues is silly, because I'm pretty sure people have been masturbating longer than internet porn.

It's not masturbation. It's the porn. the porn itself is likely what causes issues if excessively watched.

Well, as the article states this has no actual effect on pornography in Utah. Nothing is being banned or anything. At worst some 'public health officials' will do 'research' and publicly release a 'study' on why you should avoid porn. A bunch of silliness.

    That's mental health.
The Utah thing is talking about physical health, which is why its so hilarious.

All media has that affect on the brain though, so if you are talking about unrealistic expectations of things after watching them portrayed in a certain way then we have a lot more types of media to cover as well.

Kinda giggle worthy that the surprise is that 'all porn is a public health hazard', then it goes to 'Well yes, porn is harmful, so this makes sense'. When asked why, the answer is an overexposure, addiction to, and having an excessive amount is bad for you. You all do know having an excessive amount of peanut butter is bad for you right? As well as water? And.. almost everything?
