YouTube Recommmendation Algorithm

I've been getting weird recommendations for the past couple of months. I don't mind those, but this one popped up.....
Why in God's name did I get this one???? If you can explain this, please explain this. I've never looked up anything on that subject.

I looked at some of her other videos, and there was something related to what I've viewed a couple of weeks back. It had nothing to do with hairy women or shaving armpits, legs, and what not. ;-)

Maybe someone else is using your computer? Or your IP address and youtube somehow connects it.

Maybe because the recommendation system isn't perfect and sometimes get things you're not interested in the slightest.

Youtube and google who own them are constantly refining their formulas. If they just show you stuff you are historically interested in they miss out on showing you stuff you would be interested in probably based on some deductions about human psychology, extending your youtube viewing habits and making more money from ads.

Recently they seem to have this "Your Recommended Playlist Mix"-feature and it's creepy as fuck. It's full with songs I really like, used to listen to a long time, but have forgotten about, or songs I'm really interested in (from bands I like) but haven't heard before. It's like it's inside my brain. Fuck Skynet.

This is going to get much scarier. There's all kinds of deductive inferences google (who own youtube) can make about what you are likely to do, and its processing power is virtually limitless.

Yeah it is unsettling I was talking to someone in person and we were talking about this old show we used to watch. When I get home first thing I see in my recommended is reviews and clips of the show and I have not even searched for anything or clicked any video even related to it it's kind of unsettling.

Occasionally it does seem like the Recommendation system is either on crack, or it's pushing viral or promoted videos to see if it's something you'd be interested in.

I mean, of the 12 videos currently recommended for me, 11 makes perfect sense, as I've been watching videos that relate to those. But the 12th one is "What Structures Were Once the Tallest on Earth?" - and I have no idea why that's being recommended.

Apparently thumbs down on videos actually promote them as much as thumbs up do. You'd think YouTube would at least not show us that down voted garbage in recommend videos, but there it is.

That's right, ever go to hate on a video by hitting thumbs down? You're actually promoting it to other people.

It's not even an algorithm, it just suggests either other videos of channels you watched, either of same tags (which explains the weird relations), or a "top watched following this one". I don't think there's even some kind of content analysis, and keep hitting the "not interested" button. Kinda bit disappointing from Google.

Get a channel blocking extension for the repeat offenders. It saved my recommendations from being cluttered with nonsense I don't want, like reactionary/conspiracy-theory bullshit, but that's tangentially related to stuff I sometimes watch.

Sometimes you get recommendations related to programs you watched, giving you different videos from same channel.
Sometimes you get recommendations related to the subject of what you watched, so for example you get a Nightwish video if you checked a Within Temptation one because they're both metal music.
And lastly, sometimes you get recommendations because they're popular as idiots watch them. That's why you could listen to only metal music and still get Justin Bieber recommended with a song once in a blue moon. Because many people watch him.
