I doubt her talent is limited to just memorizing that particular piece of drivel.

Yeah, it is a cool accomplishment. Takes people 3-6 years to do (looks like it took her 3). She isn't even the youngest to do it.. so.. ? News? Who knows. Maybe the youngest girl?

It could actually be that it is easier at her age. Same with how it is easier to pickup new languages at certain points in the brain's development.

But this is on a whole other level.

Absolutely, there are schools for it (or like daily at home classes/courses). It isn't as rare as this news article makes it out to be. I think the youngest on record is 4 years old.

Language development is way easier the younger you are.

Fairly standard religious indoctrination TBH. Pretty sure all Muslims are expected to memorize key passages, and someone who can memorize the whole book is looked upon with reverence.

Of course, at 8 years old, she doesn't understand what she memorized, only that it pleases her parents and community. Here is an adult male that did the same thing ( http://savannahnow.com/accent/2010-0...e-quran-memory )...most interesting:

Haq is Muslim, but he doesn't understand Arabic. He doesn't know how to translate the tens of thousands of words he has committed to memory, starting as early as middle school.

Oh? I figured it had more to do with eidetic memory or some-such.

Not really. But I tend to not pay attention to religious achievements.

Memorizing any length philosophical text would be a feat.

What relevance does her being a native brit or not have to do with anything? She's a British citizen, I don't believe it was ever claimed she was born in the UK.

  18. #38
But does she even know what is written there? Or does she just shout in an arabic tune?

That's why I found that exact quote so quote-worthy. It's not even mine. I just thought it was worth pointing out.
