Yeah I agree that it definitely might be more difficult to do in practice. I'm going to need a much better way to read my health bar at a glance constantly between melee swings/boss mechanics in order to guage my next move if this is the intended practice.

Anyone really good with weakauras? I want to make an aura that looks like a DBM range mod. In the center of the box is your character(just like on dbm), and then placed around it are the areas your GoTOx are. Might make it slightly more manageable without having to absolutely search for them on the ground in effects.

I don't think there is any kind of way to detect the orbs. We don't even have a buff like DH that implies their amount I think.

Time to dig into wowhead and figure out what they identify as. Attack helicopters notwithstanding.

Celestalon's posts are just hurting my brain, he's suggesting to weave beetween ISB and purifying to get more orbs, which is similar to the best way to play brewmaster now (drop low->guard->expel harm/goto to full, repeat), the thing is on live this is safe to do because of guard, on alpha even in hc dungeons you're not close to be safe without ISB, you'll likely die in 2-3 seconds, not even talking about mythic dungeons/raids

I don't know what kind of content he tested this gameplay on but it's just not something that realistically works...
Worse, gift of the ox isn't reliable at all, the orbs spawn far away, while it's annoying to move a dungeon boss just to grab an orb it's just not something you want to do on a raid boss, would you bring a tank that has to make the boss spin and move to be on par with other tanks?

Anyone know a skilled Brewmaster? Wish I was good

The spec's gameplay was fine, we just kept saying "we need a Stagger buff" or armor or something. It wasn't fundamentally unfun and broken.

Can someone with access to the beta forums communicate to celestalon that they would do wonders to improved the quality of life in the spec if they removed gift of the ox and returned expel harm in its place. Also tell him that playing chicken with your life total to spawn ox orbs falls apart as a strategy as soon as the bosses hit harder than ox orb heal (i.e. as soon as you enter moderately challenging content).

Unfortunately, they don't heal as much as a boss hits for in heroics.

About 270k at heroic raid gear levels with 4mil hp.

No, you're playing your health bar wrong.

Here's basically what I read out of all that blue posting.

"In an attempt to chase some new class fantasy, we turned a fun and interesting spec into an unintuitive pile of crap, if you can't survive given how invincible you should be, you're just playing it all wrong. Also, we just hired Apples PR spin team."

Brewmasters had to get buffed within the first week or 2 because they literally fell over in dungeons.

I played my brewmaster non-stop on launch in WoD and I always wondered what people were doing in order to get that result. I was a monster in heroics and the one challenge mode I did went so well the group wanted me to rename to Ultrasmooth, and I did.

Not only that but on this very forum many of us were saying that the buff was wholly too much and really unwarranted to begin with. If you were a good brewmaster, you were fine at wod's launch.

Alot of it depended on your healer as well. If you took a Brewmaster into a day 2 Heroic with a Mistweaver, you basically didn't stand a chance.

The buff was a typical Blizzard thing. They can never make incremental changes, they make all their changes with a wrecking ball.

Brewmaster at the end of beta for WoD was massively underpowered. The problem back then was that the class scaled very rapidly with mastery, but when available mastery levels were low, you basically could not stay alive.

That's why there were 2 big buffs to the class directly before and after release. The 2nd one later became unnecessary as gear levels scaled up. The class reached its peak in BRF because of that.

That's what happens when you implement mechanics that are hard to balance, and that's the current problem with ISB/PB on beta now. They COULD just cut the brew CD in half and make PB 100% instead of 50%, and the class would be fine. But then add more haste later in the expansion, and that would be massively overpowered.

The mechanics have to be balanced and scalable, and they have to work in practical tests as well as on target dummies.

In a world where your "active mitigation" for preventing damage means you're likely to kill yourself and never spawn your only method of healing.

    Hey all,

I must admit I haven't played Brewmaster much (hated the idea of it when I first tried it), but I'll spend some time going with what Blizzard suggest as the playstyle and will post my thoughts here.

I actually find all of the other tanks fun to play (yes, seriously) and switch between them depending on my mood and what i feel like playing. Obviously they aren't all balanced - but I haven't given monk enough time to actually say I hate it.

I'll post on Monday or something after doing some dungeons (no raid testing on something I don't think is OP though, so probably no raid thoughts)

As much as I know it sucks to think the class and it's new identity suck, there is no point in giving feedback they've already seen after they quite clearly think the monk playstyle should be different to the other tanks, or how it has traditionally played.

Can someone post on the alpha brewmaster thread that Flaming Keg has a -15% physical damage aura applied to targets hit with an 8 yard splash?

So intuitive that Celest had to write a guide on how you're actually supposed to be playing.

First post so forgive me if I'm stupid or something. I'm trying to give Celestion the benefit of doubt, I really am.
So chucked my old weakauras and I threw together some new ones to give all the info I might need to make a purify/ISB choice. Its a bit quick and dirty and it assumes you took black ox brew. The energy and health bars shift between red and green based on current % and the stagger bar changes based on the stagger level. Its honestly starting to look more complicated then my WoD WAs and all that info is just for making a single choice.

I can understand the logic. I can absolutely get that. But in a higher level content. There is going to be a time when you inevitably mess up. When you accidentally get caught at the very edge of that void zone and you took 45% of your health in an instant. That's going to leave a very, very small margin of error. I'd go as far to say it's an uncomfortably thin line to walk.

I'll try it, if I ever get a damn invite. It might even be some seriously "edge of your seat" tanking, but I don't know if I'll find it fun.

i think he did a gr8 job. he should be an icyveins writer for that top quality, in-depth analysis of brewmasters.
