I often carry my army knife.

A habit from the army (its the standard issued knife). Very handy in a lot of situation.
May still be illegal given the swiss law against weapon carry. Blade is probably a bit too long. Never got controled, doubt it would be an issue.

Heavy is good, heavy is reliable, if it doesn't work you can always hit them with it.

In Ohio it would more than likely be considered a deadly defense weapon http://www.knifeup.com/ohio-knife-laws/ It is legal to have one, but carrying one concealed is asking for trouble with the police. Like I said, Ohio's knife laws a vague. They suck period and lack common sense application. One reason I advised the one poster who lives in Ohio to remember the answer why he has a pocket knife is it is a tool. Not a weapon. :P

I have three of these Gerber remixes.

    Is this a serious question?

For sure. I collect because I appreciate the work that goes into making some higher end production/midtech knives or customs. As far as why I carry, well I can't tell you how many times I've used it as a tool (too many to count/remember). I can tell you how many times I've had to use it as a weapon: 0.

Of course it is. If something is illegal, it should not be a massive problem. :P And if you cared to read the response from the OP to that question, you would know the answer.

I have one in my purse. It's a $10 camo handle knife with a thin flip blade. I use it to cut stuff like boxes, open letters and whatever.

I used too. Then I just stopped because I never used it for anything. I see no problem with someone carrying a knife, usually those people are handy to have around. The only caveat would be size. I don't see a reason why anyone would need a knife more tha 3-4 inches. I see mall ninjas walking around with K-Bars and similar knives quite often which is silly and says a lot about that persons mentality.

I carried a big knife for self defense after getting into a big fight with a group of guys. Was fearing their revenge. Nothing happened and the knife is currently resting in the drop drawer in the kitchen.

    Mostly just scalpels.

I'd love to get a good karambit that fits my state's regulations though.

At absolutely no point in my day to day life in 32 years have I ever went like... -Damn! A knife would be handy right now!

When I'm camping/fishing/hunting/DIYing things I do have knives on hand. At the office I have a letter opener and at home I have knives in my kitchen and toolbox.

But it never occurred to me to carry a knife in my pocket when I'm traveling, at the bar, in a meeting, at the park, on a date etc.

I find regular knife carriers slightly deranged. For 80% of the uses people claim their pocket knives have a simple flat metal key will do.

It's illegal to carry knives in Italy and that's one of the few things I like about this place. I just don't trust the average Joe with carrying a weapon, one day or the other the dumbass is going to trip over and stab someone.

Everyone that matters to me would sure disagree with the notion that I'd have that knife on display in my home to "be cool" instead of, as I said, because it's beautiful.

I carry one sometimes (almost identical to the one in the OP), usually if I know I'll need it for something later. Except when I go on base... they never check my purse, but definitely not allowed. I've had moments where that knife came in handy for opening something, or cutting a particularly hard piece of plastic lining. I once got a pony tail stuck in my hair, didn't have a pair of scissors :P That knife came in handy then, too! Fortunately I didn't cut any of my hair off.

My husband did as well before he joined the Navy. He worked at a pawn shop, so it came in handy. He used to have a few around the house for different purposes (we used to live around in the middle of no where), they're great tools for DIY jobs. As far as self defense... it never even occurred to me. I usually just keep my car keys around my middle finger just in case. We DO have one in an emergency kit in our trunk with other supplies.
