I'm still slowly working on the ARR Beast Tribe quests. I've got some at Rank 1, others at Rank 2 and another at Rank 3.
Silly newb me; I have none of the beast tribe reps to the point I could've obtained these items from them. Otherwise I would probably be done with my 210 weapon by now. I blame my apprehension towards doing them to how OCD I was in WoW with reps (where I literally had every rep but 1 or 2 in the game at exalted).
Going to work on getting them all maxed out before xpac's end; figure they will likely nerf some of the requirements for the anima weapons at the end of the xpac with 4.0 looming on the horizon, so to have the tribe reps done + crafting leveled up will have me in a much better spot for getting these weapons on alt jobs going into next expansion.
Got all crafting to 60 over the weekend. Blacksmith and Armorsmith from 57-60 had 0 cost as I gathered the mats and made titanium nuggets for 8 blue scrips each to grind them up. Same process for weaver with ramie and flax. I did buy a few and did the final bit using lower level leves and buying the Ramie belts from the Ok'Zundu vendor.
Also have every Master III book for crafting. Now to figure out my path to getting gear to be able to make more stuff and what I'll make for big scrip turn ins towards Master IV books.
Also close to 59 PLD now. I'll probably FATE grind that out tonight to finish it off.
Incorrect. They had the same cost as if you had sold the materials on the Market Board.
People always make this mistake when considering costs. Your playtime is a currency just as much as gil is.
Personally, I'll only pursue crafting gear once they implement a set that can be worn with every profession. It's insane effort to equip them all individually.
Internet forums are more for circlejerking (patting each other on the back) than actual discussion (exchange and analysis of information and points of view). Took me long enough to realise ...
I'm not complaining as I tend to get an item from each every week. I'm only missing the chest piece for my monk but I nearly have a 2nd set for another class.
Ha ha, that's why I'm waiting still. :P Will be getting the Dragoon weapon (currently level 49).
Sorry....
Tikki tikki tembo, Usagi no Yojimbo, chari bari ruchi pip peri pembo!
They are specialist recipes only, so rather useless for non specialists right now.

Ofc the lucky ones won't complain about RNG based systems haha. :<
Regarding the relic: knowing SE they will most likely nerf the Poetic/eso costs of the items into the ground instead of cutting the amount required. So it makes little difference, since I do beasties in order to sell the materia and eso/poetic stack up rather naturally as by products.
*sigh* No out of pocket cost of lowering my current level of gil, nitpicky nitpicker. I know you hate crafting and want everyone to realize it's an abysmal pit of despair, but shoosh! :P
I refuse to fall into the "time is money" bullshit mentality because my life isn't going to revolve over every second thinking about money, not irl, not in a game. I was capped on EX, ran Void Ark for the week, have my relic, almost full 230 gear, and wanted to finish leveling crafting. I lost nothing by *gasp* playing the game in order to do so.
SO..... no cost out of pocket.

I don't hate crafting. If Idid, I wouldn't have leveled all of them to 60. Well... almost all. Darn cooking. ._.
But everyone can see that it is horribly balanced in terms of effort -> reward one you go for the rather extreme stuff.
Who says anything about "every second"?I refuse to fall into the "time is money" bullshit mentality because my life isn't going to revolve over every second thinking about money, not irl, not in a game.
It's only logical to think about "do I farm half an hour to save 10K gil or do I have ways to make 10K gil within minutes?"
Sure, if you have unlimited playtime you might not care, but most players do not have that luxury.
I always chuckle if people obsess over farming for hours and then somehow think they got the mats "for free" because their gil counter didn't go down.
I know it sounds odd, but sometimes I do actually enjoy the tedium of doing something like that. I can just kind of zone out and turn my mind off for a while, it's relaxing in a way. More often though I watching TV or a movie with my wife while only half paying attention to the game or listening to an audio book.
Still, I -should- focus on something that would make me more money and just buy what I need. That would still be self-sufficient. I'm really just compelled to do it the way I do for some reason.
