the reason blizzard shut it down, is because the Guys who ran Nosalrius, although it was free, and didnt have Donor Packs, was because they STOLE blizzards property.Originally Posted by Ghostcrawler

Long Answer: Activision-Blizzard wishes to protect their IP, even though the game they chose to protect no longer exists. There is also fear that the current retail game will become irrelevant if more people chose to play the older versions, largely regarded as a fun-to-play MMORPG. It is a highly contested area, currently, as those playing the retro vanilla version were not likely to subscribe anyways, and did not give a hoot about the latest purples given away willy-nilly.
