MUSIC RANT TIME

So the radio at work plays some pretty bad music most of the time. I was actually surprised to hear music that I like that isn't like super mainstream, like Better than Ezra's "A Lifetime". And it's worse, because now employees (and customers probably too if you know the store number) can call in and request songs. And they're always, ALWAYS, garbage. The one time I heard a good request was "Uprising" by Muse. And they played it once. Meanwhile, shitty requests are being played on the hour every hour. No exaggeration. And they play the full request, so you know it's the same ones over and over. But no, play the good request once. Although, if they played Uprising, think I can get away with "Wake Up" by Rage Against the Machine? I mean, they say "family-friendly", but they play plenty of rap and hip-hop, and regularly play "Stacy's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne (but never "Hey Julie", a much better song).

But today was extra shitty. Between the shitty country and rap, they played the trifecta of "what the fuck". And don't get me wrong. I like some country. But it's always defined as "pop country", because apparently if you're not singing about church, beer, and pickup trucks, it's not actually country. An older example of this that I always use is Bryan White, who I still love, and is apparently still making music. I love his voice. A current example is Taylor Swift, who yes, I like.

Number one. They play this song every single day. I assume Meghan Trainor is mostly dance-type music, and I can understand that that's what it's going for. What she doesn't get a pass on is the lyrics, which are garbage and COMPLETELY UNINTELLIGIBLE. I'll gladly accept a million dollars for mumbling into a mic. I think she thinks she's a cat, since the bridge has that part where she just goes "nyah nyah nyah".

Number two. I just heard this song for the first time today. Yes, it's country, and the bad kind. I'm guessing there's some kinda metaphor here, but I couldn't get it because I was so annoyed by the guy constantly saying "swing batta batta". Again, can I make money by going to a little league baseball game and just recording the ambient noise? When I first heard it, I thought it was Toby Keith, because all male country artists sound the same, and I wanted to hate him more than I already do (it's bleeding rage at this point).

Number three. I am ashamed of the fact I know this song really well. After all, I did grow up on country music, and some 90's country is still good (because it doesn't cater to the aforementioned stereotypes). But this is borderline religious music. Also, I'm sure Texas is a cool place, and there's some awesome people from there. But I don't think it's that special.
