Whaaaattt????? No politician has spoke about China in Deeeccaaaddeeesss??? This is totally a brand new issue, and defiantly not an issue we hear about on a regular basis!

It doesn't matter to Trump's followers that he's engaged in the behaviors he's railing against. To them, it's just proof that he knows how the rigged system works so that he can tear it down better.

To the rest of us, we look at Trump and think he's there for the benefit of Trump, either by pocketbook or by ego.

OT: "Rape" is a very strong word that shouldn't be used in this context. But China is manipulating their currency, which is sort of the equivalent of throwing up massive tariffs on everything we want to sell to them. It's strange that we work on Free Trade deals to get rid of tariffs, but when China is de facto tariffing our goods, we aren't retaliating.
The mechanism we would have to use is the WTO. There is no currency manipulation component with the WTO. As well the retaliation by the Chinese would raise costs of consumer goods in the US significantly. And of course the biggie American corporations benefit from the current system with it's cheaper labor pool.
What are we gonna do now? Taking off his turban, they said, is this man a Jew?
'Cause they're working for the clampdown
They put up a poster saying we earn more than you!
When we're working for the clampdown
We will teach our twisted speech To the young believers
We will train our blue-eyed men To be young believers

All Trump is proven is that he's willing to say yet another hot-button issue with no claims, chalk it up to absurdist levels in rhetoric, and then propose to do nothing about it to get votes.

Just like every. Single. one. of his other talking points.

Not that I support Sanders, I think the situation isn't bad enough yet that he can get anything done, but:

And rather than trying to artifically devalue their currency, China has been desperately trying to prop up its currency for the last few months to stimulate consumer spending. Because after all, while flooding the world with cheap exports makes an economy look strong on paper, it doesn't exactly do much for the actual quality of life of its citizens.
Trump is a moron so he doesn't understand economics so spouts moronic things.

Nobody listens to Bernie so, I'm not sure that counts. I didn't even know who that guy was until I looked to see who was running besides Hillary, early in the process.

You apparently do though because what I'm griping about is mainstream media turning into click bait crap. You're the only one coming on strong with the SJW talk.

Literally the first reply to the thread, and you brought in your trash instead of being on topic.

China wants to keep their currency cheap because they export a lot, that's also beneficial to us consumers as it keeps goods cheaper to buy.

Because Trump, in this case, is like a guy saying "Slavery is wrong, and nobody should ever suffer that way", while at the same time being a major player in the international human trafficking industry. You can't pretend that he actually believes what he's saying, because he doesn't do it, himself. It's a lie that he thinks people want to hear.

If he really felt that China was treating Americans so unfairly in trade, he wouldn't be trading with them. Except that he is. Which means he's a liar.

A BA in Economics. A BA is not a particularly high level of academic achievement. If you can regurgitate stuff you read, you can earn a BA. It doesn't require much in the way of critical thinking or analysis.

I do think that China is an important issue to most people, but the problem is that the average voter is so uninformed about China that they'd look like experts by comparison on things like immigration and terrorism. Yeah, every so often there will be some public outrage over Tibet or lead in toothpaste, but for the most part the public discourse on China is restricted to self-important policy wonks who have difficulty getting all their grand geopolitical designs to resonate with the average Joe Blow. For example, that whole issue of currency manipulation has in the last few year done a complete 360 and walk away, but idiots like Trump and his supporters don't recognize that and, perhaps more damningly, won't even take the two seconds to google some articles to get the facts on it.

If we try to compete with China in those areas yea, but luckily we have adapted from a production economy to a service based economy
