Two things people have missed in this thread are zero hour contracts where they're working and getting benefits and the fact that peoples benefits can be stopped for any stupid reason leaving them with nothing.
Personally I hope the situation gets bad enough that jobcentre staff get eaten by claimants.

Oddly enough its the same way in Iraq.

People will be poor as dirt, but when you're flying over Baghdad, EVERYONE has a damned Satellite dish

More than 5 million people die prematurely every year due to air pollution

What medical check ups? Old folks and kids get some routine check ups.
basic routine stuff. I used to go into studies to get my basic physical and dental, and whenever they had something that I was reasonably sure wouldn't fuck me up - did contraception studies at planned parenthood for my reproductive health (since those came with checkups too). because I was only going into outpatient stuff that was things like last stage trials of a slightly different kind of something that's already on the market - (like yet another mouthwash or what not) I pretty much broke even on those, maybe make $20 here and there. but.. it also meant that I didn't have to worry as much about my health deteriorating, becasue I missed something that is easy to treat with early detection - not so much if you let it slide)

otherwise - you have to pay for doctor's visits and they can get pricey. even if you do your best to keep yourself healthy. (and yes that includes people who now have ACA insurance, since it has both deductibles and co-pay)

I know people who spend £100+ a month for 2 people, and wonder why it costs so much. Maybe because they HAVE to buy branded foods? I used to be like that when I was younger, but now I buy whatever I like the taste of. The only thing I stock up on is non perishable stuff like fizzy drinks.
that... is actualy inefficient and can increase the budget unnecessarily. its your choice, naturally, but I have found personally that planning out meals and then shopping once a week, while keeping track (on paper for me) what you need, what you are running low of, etc results in lower bills while keeping your meals nutritious and keeping you away from random snack purchases. and fizzy drinks are pretty poor value for your money. again, in my experience. YMMV and all that, but during tight budget times, it usually came down to case of 12 fizzy drinks, or pack of teabags that last 8 times as long PLUS a bag of sugar (my one concession to my sweet tooth during those times, not counting occasional frozen fruit) that will last even longer and go with both tea and family size pack of generic oatmeal that will cover a LOT of breakfasts. I would be curious to see if you might start tracking exactly what you buy for a month and then add that up, to see what your actual food bill looks like

anyways. being poor is hard. its more time consuming than being middle class (let alone rich). you don't have a luxury of buying on impulse. anything, not even a pack of gum. but at the same time. it IS possible to manage, while you work towards not being poor. and yes it takes education. the biggest issue with poor staying poor is not lack of money. its lack of knowledge and how to apply it.

    Random.

That isn't a picture of Britain and not sure what air pollution has to do with the thread.

I don't think you should be aggressively lecturing anybody on how to behave, you are a native Brit and you write worse English than an 8-year old.

Britain isn't meeting it's air pollution targets and most brits aren't smart enough/too self conscious to wear facemasks.

Unless you're proper sick you won't get checked up with anything that you couldn't do yourself in the UK. You can get a dental check up once or twice a year but it's private and semi subsidised by the state.

Bearing in mind Native Brits invented English you should watch and learn, how they choose to bastardize it now is how you will be speaking/writing/studying it a decade from now.

Zero hour contracts are fucking bullshit. I worked in retail most of my working life, and I remember those being introduced when I went back to work after a year or two off with illness. Was asked to sign a zero hour contract, and I walked out. They are the worst thing ever.

As for benefits being stopped for any reason, yeah. I've seen that happen to people. A friend of mines couldn't make her appointment due to being in hospital, she called them a week before, on the day she went into hospital, to let them know. They still stopped her benefit for no show at appointment, even with letters from her GP AND hospital discharge letters, they wouldn't give her money back... 4 weeks of money gone for something she had no control over.

If they are too poor to eat, shouldn't they have died of starvation? /kappa

Seriously though, as folks already mentioned, this study is, at best, questionable.

I have a modest proposal, they could sell their babies as food to the rich, that way they could afford to buy food and their betters would have a new delicacy to food blog about.

Lol there is no "Homocide" I remember the Sochi Olympics hysteria, more like hysteria for Russia rising than anything, anyways this is Russia, sadly, homo-sexuals are much better off than I'd want them to be

    Sochi has gay bars...

    Putin hugs a gay athlete

So many western sheeple who believe Russia is USSR the 1940's in 2016, there is sadly no cure for such gullibility..they crave the fear-porn their media feeds them, your media just sells fear..

A law against Homosexual media propaganda against minors doesn't mean there is some genocide going on, Christ, you homo-sexuals screech every opposition to you as the worst offense that could possible be done towards you and everyone that you don't like is Hitler born again.

i think it all depends on who these people are asking. I know one of these "im so poor i have to use food banks" people, who somehow always has money for fags and booze. not to mention mostly eating takeaways.
Its people who have no idea how to actually feed themselves.

having said that, being recently dependent on the system after an illegal dismissal, the wonderful system here decided to give me £586 a month to live on... given that my rent is 475.. after we add basic utilities it left me with £18 a month.. for everything.

but hey, im only 28 and a single male so no fucks are given by the system.

These people who will have been "surveyed" will be lifetime benefit scroungers who do anything to avoid work at everyone else's expense

tbh, having recently gone through the system.... its more the staff than anything else. they are beyond incompetent and just don't give a shit. more than likely they never even bothered noting her appointment on the system. its the only way this would happen. they didn't even pay me a penny for 3months because the staff are that fucking clueless.

its why i cant stress the importance of people saving properly when in work
