Now they closed Nostalrius, Blizzard has to take responsibility and come up with an alternative.
They created this issue, not us.
And the best way to accomodate the majority is to release untouched vanilla 1.12. at start, Nostalrius/Kronos style.

you're the ones paddling it, Nost was going down anyway ,they said so themselves. Stop thinking that blizzard owe you anything.
you want this, you want that. then its your problem, not blizzards. they have been closing illegal private servers that infringe on their IP for a long time, this isnt new.
It actually is Blizzard's problem and our problem as well. Legacy servers would put privates out of business instantaneously, and it would net Blizzard more income (and very likely more profit). Not taking advantage of a demand in your market and supplying it is most definitely a problem.
It wouldnt put them out instantly, since quite a lot of people play private over retail due to it being free, they wouldnt suddenly stop playing a free private server to take on blizzards construct, which would probably be with a monthly fee or other expenses. A legal option would be nice for the people that really did want a legacy-ish server, but not everyone that goes to the private servers are struck with nostaliga.
People would get bored of vanilla legacy servers after a few months anyway. No new content will be added and when everyone cleared the raids and have the best gear there will be nothing more to do.
More of your problem overall.
Blizzard is probably working on the next big thing, it's possible they will make legacy servers, but it's probably not going to be any time soon. More than likely long after you have given up, and nothing really that the current legacy crowd actually wants.
Example:
No heirlooms.
No xp reductions.
All expansions including base game.
Current build system, no tree's.
Mounts at 40 and 60, flying at 70, 78, 85 and 100+meta.
Time-walking at any level.
LFR-LFD still exist.
I just don't think Blizzard would want to revise the past, when they can just modify the existing experience, especially if they could do it as a F2P version with micro-transactions as a "this is what WoW once was" living museum.
Been offline. Not practical to go through and read this entire thread, Last time I looked blizzard was going meet with Nostralius/Mark Kern/?.
What is the state of Nostralius/legacy servers atm? Any word of this happening/not happening?
Operation Red Wing
Nost received a C&D letter from Blizzard and complied, so that's done and the server is shut down.
Blizzard has agreed to a meeting in the near future with the Nost admin/dev team. It's being coordinated by Mark Kern, one of the original creators of Classic WoW.
No dates as of yet, because Mike (Blizzard CEO) is booked for the next couple of weeks, as is normal for someone at his business level.
More information is available via Nost and Mark's Twitter feeds and likely will show on this thread and Reddit.
Once we gathered friends together, drank a ton of Mountain Dew and beer, and role played with paper, pencils, and books.
Now I log onto MMOs with the same people and we only talk about how hard we PWNed that: Noob, boss, etc.
I hate modern gaming....
If World of Warcraft 1.0 was released today, it will be crushed by the concurrence. (FFXIV / SWTOR / GW2 / Others...)
Comparing a completely new game and experience to a 12 year old game and you dont think people would get tired. The only people who is interested in playing vanilla is the people who already did it and they will consume all vanilla content in a few months and then quit again, everyone else would hate it and quit very fast.
I highly doubt that since it would be coming off the back end of a huge franchise. FF14 has around 1 mil subs and GW2 has around a few hundred thousand players. As for SWTOR no idea haven't payed attention to that. Maybe without Wow they would have more players but I doubt around 12 million for one game or combined. Oh and let's not forget WoW was the formula for most of those MMOs today so which game would be the formula?

Initial scheduling and coordination happened, not the full official one.

Also, Mark and the Nost team are running polls and surveys for information gathering. There's a huge attempt to do this "right" if it goes off.

You are misinformed, the announcement that was made prior was that they are in the works to have meetings. Michael Morheime is busy because, you know, he's a CEO. Based on what Mark Kern originally said, they're hoping for a meeting next week. Also to mention, the Nostalrius Devs and Mark are most likely going to be meeting on separate dates.
