Getting an education should not just be needed to earn enough to live off. Educated people should be if you want a disposable income. Someone flipping burgers should be earning a LIVEABLE wage. Just with nothing left over.

Maccas here (Australia) pays people 15-25 bucks an hour. Yet McDonalds here is the most profitable in the world. There are more advantages then people having a liveable wage. Having happy staff also makes a massive difference. Nobody should have to be happy nor hardworking at 7 bucks an hour.

15AUS = 11USD pretty much what the McD's pays near me and I live in a federal minimum wage state ($7.25 / hr). Obviously I don't know the cost of living in your area. Most states have a minimum wage over the government required $7.25 / hr. Some not much higher, but there are quite a few that are in the 8 and 9 dollar range.

15 would be for someone under 18. 20 would be about average for someone over but it varies.

Don't have time for a response since I am off to bed. But I just wanted to point out that a livable wage, as defined by the president who proposed it and signed it into law, stated that Minimum wage was meant to be more than just a subsistence wage as you are describing. His words are in my signature for that very reason.

If you are working to make just enough to survive and not enough to improve yourself or get a real chance to live, that isn't a livable wage, that is a subsistence wage.

So, in the words of FDR:

No business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country.

By living wages, I mean more than a bare subsistence level — I mean the wages of a decent living.

Any job that pays that little is surviving on a flawed business model being propped up by lax government regulation preventing them from abusing their employees and deserves to be shut down or go under in order to be replaced by another company that will perform their duties properly in regard to their workers.

I'm calling bullshit on your example, why you ask? Even at say $10/hour which is above min wage pretty much anywhere in the US minus a few locations soon enough that it still comes out to $1600 a month before taxes, she pays $900 in rent? She's pays 56% of her income to rent alone, not including utilities/food/transportation and so forth. She's either working as a waitress somewhere that tips well and makes well above current minimum wage or you're full of shit. Working 40 hours a week should be enough to get by without stressing over it or working two or more jobs.
