No-one ever asked where the Fel Reaver was. It found YOU.
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.
Both? My first serious character in WoW was a Gnome Rogue. Yes, a Gnome Rogue. I still remember the days I quested in Westfall. Later, I switched to Horde and I leveled in Barrens with many different characters. Good ol' days.
I'm biased as I played only Alliance pre-Cata :P
I played predominately alliance, I don't even remember the defias messenger...
Isn't Mankrik's wife next to Chuck Norris in the barrens? LOL good lord 2004/5 was a different time....
Rexxar was worse as you had to find him multiple times as Horde. It was incredibly annoying sometimes.

Mankriks wife.
Mostly because you read this question far too often because you stayed in the barrens for almost 10 levels and could enjoy more fun there 5 levels later.
Too many people and too often the same question.
At least the Defias Messenger quest gave you a description where this guy could possibly be, Lost in battle was pretty much "somewhere around the Gold road" which is a shitty description due the Gold road going through the entire Barrens.
To address the OP:
Mankrik's wife, because I spent far more time in the Barrens than in Westfall (although my first couple of toons in wow were alliance).
Defias messenger because I played Alliance. But in TBC when I leveled my first Horde character I found "Lost in Battle" a much more memorable quest.
The biggest problem with the Defias messenger was that people would kill him, so you would have to wait for him to respawn.
Mankrik wife is more of a meme or whatever they were before "meme"
while Defias Messenger I saw a lot talked about in real gameplay.
Content drought is a combination of catchup mechanics and no new content.
For a minute, I thought we were going to get some fan fiction where they had some sort of romance.
My main has always been Alliance, so Defias Messenger wins for me. That said, I also remember Barrens Chat pretty well.
Thought about going with the "I wasn't born yet" option just for the lulz.
Yeah, even on PvE servers, assclowns would do this to show their impressive "skills" to everyone.

Yes I remember. It just makes me think of escort quests and my dislike of them.

Mankrik's wife is more memorable but the messenger was pretty fun just killing it for shits and giggles and having people flip their shit
