Why are people so pessimistic about the movie?

I don't think the CG is that bad; what makes me worried that the movie is going to be painfully bad is the script and poor acting.

I think the CGI looks really good. I honestly dont know what people are on about. We also get the lead from Vikings who is doing a really good job.

The trailers were not so good. Music was DubStep. Awful advertising.

Movie itself looks bland. WC1 & WC2 plot involved lots of fighting, mixed with rescuing people, escorts, and heavy defense / offense. Plot themes were to add new races / classes to the mix, for a more complex game.

How can this translate into a movie? Not easily. Will Blizzard do it? Uhhh .....Uhhh.... Not with a movie full of fighting, which trailers showed.

I don't even know what to answer... This must be a troll ..

1. it has orcs and i fucking hate orcs
2. i don't generally watch movies anyway, last time i've seen a movie was 3 years ago.
3. i cringe VERY easily so i'm sparing myself. *
4. even if i have played WoW 10 years, it does not mean shit, i'm simply not interested to see the movie

* i'm actually facepalming on the marketing campaign already, i just can't help myself. Even those 4 in-game weapon models made me turn my head away from the screen. I think i would kill myself if i ever see any movie advertising IRL.

The original dragonball series could be a great movie actually, Evolution just shows how bad videogame/cartoon movies can be.

So what's the magic reason a story, just because its original media was an anime or a videogame, can't be adapted into a movie? Of course it won't be a 1:1 adaptation, just like every other adaptation, including some of the most popular and critically acclaimed movies ever made.

Just finished watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens on dvd. If that piece of crap (honestly, it's piece of crap) can be a box office hit, then why not WoW movie.

The red ribbon arc for example could potentially be a great movie if they don't deviate too far and retain the humor. Dragonball Z however is a different story (atleast everything past the frieza arc that is). Getting off topic though, sure some series/games shouldn't be movies but a lot of them could be.

I think it's just a matter of finding the essence of that universe, whether it be the visuals, the world, the history or the characters, and build an original story based on that. Trying to retell the exact same story that was originally made around a gameplay will usually result in an obvious lack of interactivity.

Storytelling heavily relies on the medium, but events, environments and characters are universal.

I think people would be more satisfied if they would have just gone with the fan favorite warcraft lore of warcraft 3 and frozen throne, because lets face it how many of the current playerbase has started with warcraft 1 instead of warcraft 3 or even wow.

Star Wars is a whole different beast, it has a history of being one of the most popular movie franchise there is. The IP alone carried most of its sales, even if the movie is as bad as one of the prequels, people would still want to see it on the big screen.

Because Blizzard has butchered their own lore thus far? We're about to have Illidan revived by an alternate Gul'dan after defeating Archimonde with Archmage Khadgar, a Mary Sue character in Yrel, and our supposed arch enemy for WoD in Grom Hellscream. Oh, and Grom is our bestest friend after defeating Archimonde and the whole Iron Horde business is just water under the bridge.

I mean for fuck's sake. Why, after that drivel, would you expect a movie to be any good?

Many people here seem to be under the impression that as long as it has the Blizzard trademark on it everyone has to like it. Same problem with Overwatch, any legitimate criticism is quickly silenced by the drones.
