Facebook is a cesspit when it comes to political related stuff. Generally speaking most people aren't mature enough to consider both sides of a debate and are only interested in instant gratification and being told how 'progressive' or 'conservative' they are (depending on their political stance).

i dont mind an occasional post but if my feed from you is non stop rants and poorly thought out political memes then i will unfriend someone.

its kind of considered a point of etiquette to not talk about politics with friends and family. that and it often exposes a rather ugly side to them which may make a person rethink their association in the first place.

This person might not dislike you as a person; they might have just been doing this for their own good because whatever you post about makes them angry and they don't wan that stress in their life.

One thing that annoys me about facebook is that people can see your comments on pages that are completely unrelated to your own page. For example, my own profile page could be filled with animal pictures and funny videos that aren't offensive (stuff I want my family to see), but by using the sidebar, friends/family can also see my comments on pages like "American Atheists". This has led to a few ex-friends stalking me around the site, getting offended by stuff I've said that isn't their business. You wouldn't invite your grandma into a conversation about death metal (unless you had a really cool grandma), so why should facebook tacitly invite her?

Some people can't handle the banter. I am pro Trump, I have pro Trump friends on my fb and I have pro sanders friends on my fb. I don't go getting butthurt over my sanders friends and I don't go shit posting all over their wall everytime they share a pro sanders fb image. Some people just get too salty from what I think is just being too immature to handle conflicting opinions especially if they are backed up with a decent argument.

I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to the death to defend your right to say it.

Also: If what someone says absolutely goes against what you consider right etc., chances are that you what get into problems with each other in real life too. It's just "easier" to break ties with someone on FB.

Someone unfriended you on facebook. How terrible. Truly, we are all at a loss for words.

How do you know it's a bad argument if you haven't listened to it? No one is asking you to engage in the same debate repeatedly, not being an authoritarian just means you don't require other people to have the same exact opinion just because yours has been solidified.

Funny that OP did not even post the opinion that got him unfriended.

This is actually how I got unfriended. I made an asinine comment on an asinine news article about how a transgender person should come out to their parents. My comment was if your parents don't already know you're transgender based on how you look, you have bigger problems.

Apparently this was very offensive. I am appearance-ist or something.

Were you caustic and vile? I have unfriended plenty of folks, not for their opinions, because they were rude assholes who I did not want to be associated with.

Getting unfriended on FB over a political post should be seen as kind of a rite of passage into the world of politics.

The best reason why you shouldn't ignore them entirely is that you won't be able to offer them superior counter-arguments.
