SSY is rated highly both in this thread (look at the OP), and MAL, for a good reason. It's very well liked and well received by the community as a whole.

I'm a bit overawed at Stellaris. On a small map the level of expansion and growth is mind-boggling. I can't believe how many hours I am in...and how I'm still in what would normally be the "early" stages for a 4x game. I don't know how it matures later, but if the later pieces with diplomacy are anything comparable I'm a bit in awe.

Initially I didn't like the idea of sectors, but then I played for a bit. One of victory conditions is holding 40% of habitable worlds - and even on a medium map that's easily at least 300 colonies. There's playing wide, and then there's playing wide.
