Of course they are free to do what they want, but I feel that the WoW section of the launcher should be reserved exclusively for WoW news updates and promotions. The Overwatch ads can hide any potential WoW updates that Blizzard may be trying to communicate, and can also confuse players. It also makes Blizzard look desperate for sales, and detracts from the general theme of the WoW section of the launcher. If it is not allowed to be discussed on the WoW section on the forums, then it shouldn't be posted on the WoW section of the launcher.

We already get Overwatch spam on the forums and by emails. And besides, if players would like to see any news regarding Overwatch, they are always 1 click away from the Overwatch button.

So are Overwatch ads in the WoW section of the launcher perfectly acceptable business practices? Or should they be removed?
Uhm... It's the same launcher, just a different page.. And it's their content.. products.. so.. Yeah..

This just feels like a topic made just to make a topic to complain....

Well it's the battle.net launcher, not WoW launcher. It's like being angry that Steam advertises other games than whatever your favorite is.

Uhh, yes? I do, however, wish I could pick which emails I get sent to me. I have no interest in any Overwatch or Hearthstone stuff, but I'm fine with getting emails for the other games.

You must be a fun person to be around flying off the handle like that just because people disagree with you.

    It's not even a WoW launcher any more, it's a Battle.Net launcher.

Let's be real here, overwatch will have been out for a month and a half before WoW has any news to share. It's not a big deal.

I assumed it was with Grom standing back there with his nipple piercings. "Viagra! Turn this *mirror* into this! *Grom*"

All I see is big blue buttons for Play/Install and Brown/Orange backgrounds for braking news. There's a slider with patch and game releases. I don't really see the problem with that, it doesn't block your game experience in any way

It's called the Battle.net Launcher for a reason......

  14. #74
Yeah it's cross promotion of one of their games, also it's not the "WoW launcher" it's the BNet Launcher.

    Are you serious?

why wouldn't it? It's Blizzard's launcher... they're Blizzard games. Cmon, geez.

  16. #76
I too would prefer only news/advertisements on the game selected, but of course it's still appropriate to show their other games

Nope. That is not how advertising works. You want to expose your newest and latest products to as many potential customers as possible.

If that is how you feel about Blizzard using their launcher to advertised their own products to their existing customers, how do you feel about other types of advertising?

Personally, I have no problem with them advertising their other games in their own launcher. I would be surprised if they did not.

True that kinneer, I find it more annoying to be browsing the mmo-champion forums and be disturbed by a banner ad with audio... or one of the darn ones that pop up and cover part of your screen. But for blizzard the Overwatch advertisements on the other game "Launchers" is perfectly fine it's a pretty normal advertising practice.

Not particularly a fan of having it there. Still salty about it's announcement after talking about how great the last 20 years of Warcraft was, and then randomly shoehorning in Overwatch. But whatever makes them happy, it is their launcher.
