1. They always add the current/latest xpac to the entire game as a bundle/package
2. Makes sense to have it as easy to purchase as possible for the possibility of a bunch of folks wanting to play the game after seeing the movie
Glad to see the posters in this thread are not falling for the bait - as everyone has stated, this is not out of the ordinary and is further substantiated by the movie's release. Movie brings in new players, obviously don't want to discourage by making them buy both WoD and the current expansion.
Let's not react to every single possible piece of news as if it is negative please.
End of Cataclysm: Holy shit! Is Blizzard trying to forget Cata? They merged it into the Battle Chest!
End of Mists of Pandaria: Holy shit! Is Blizzard trying to forget MoP? They merged it into the Battle Chest!
End of Warlords of Draenor: Holy shit! Is Blizzard trying to forget WoD? They merged it into the Battle Chest!
End of Legion: Holy shit! Is Blizzard trying to forget Legion? They merged it into the Battle Chest!
And on and on it goes...
This is nothing new. New expansion comes around, merge the previous into the Battle Chest. Keeps the game cheaper for newer players so they do not spend over 200 U.S.D. just to get to the current expansion.

You mean the Battle Chest that also contains Vanilla, TBC, Wrath, Cataclysm and MoP? Are you implying that Blizzard is trying to 'forget' all of those as well? (/joke)
Get a grip. They've been doing that since the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, when they rolled the Vanilla game and The Burning Crusade expansion into one single "Battle Chest" to make things easier (and cheaper) for the new customer.
Truth be told I bet it's for the movie. So if it does rope people in after the trail it is one purchase instead of several. Usually it does happen a bit later but the timing is pretty in line.
The previous expac gets merged into the battlechest every time there is a new one on the horizon , movie or not
I have to say I was very surprised at the many countries who aren't giving away the base game with a movie ticket. Therefore I can't really see it as anything out of the ordinary. If they were giving a free trial to every movie ticket buyer... then mebbe
How do you think BC, Wrath and MoP were merged? It happened a little later than the WoD merge but you seem to not realize the movie coming out with it's promo includes the FULL game, which is all expacs including WoD.
Either way, a merge happens every single time a new expac gets released.
The raids in WoD were good and the addition of mythic dungeons was fantastic but that's it. Those two qualities aren't enough for an expansion to be good or even decent. Outdoor content, Raids, PvP, everything in the game needs to be present for it to be a good expac.

I guess what's why you can buy MoP stand-alone.. No wait, you can't.
Well I'm sure you could do it in WoD! Not for very long in WoD at least.
Ever since, what.. CATA they've put old expansions into the base game. Then when a new one comes out, they merge the old expansion in with the rest. I'll agree that they're doing it a bit soon for WoD. But I don't really mind, nor care.
I figured it had to do with the movie coming out next month (US) and theaters giving a free copy of the base game and them wanting to make sure people had the best experience possible coming out from the theaters to the game to then be a sub.
With how much this forum shits on WoD, Blizzard 'tries to appease them' and what happens?
