EU-Turkey migrant deal could be thrown in to chaos. For the obvious reason

Turkey, is not seen as a safe country.. who would have thought?...

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36345990

The short version is that a Greek court has ruled that a Syrian asylum seeker cannot be sent back to Turkey because it is unsafe, claiming migrants "do not have basic human rights" and that they are not currently protecting migrants and refugees to the standards of the Refugee Convention.

lack of human rights in a lot of areas such as freedom of the press ect are already massively lacking in Turkey and Erdogan has nicely appointed a puppet as PM to swing the country ever more towards another nut job state

Only question now is how desperate are EU officials to ignore the rulings of its own member states courts in regards to safety, and their ever increasing push to bring Turkey into the Eu -_-

It's an excuse. The real reason is removing visa restrictions for Turkish citizens.

Doesnt matter anyway, we have a wall. It will protect us, thank you Macedonia.

Only around 300 refugees have been returned to Turkey. The entire deal was doomed to fail from the start.

Anyone who believes Turkey is getting closer to EU is not that smart.

A German court has banned a German comic from repeating parts of an obscene poem he wrote about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The court in Hamburg ruled that Jan Boehmermann's poem was satire, but said the sexual references were unacceptable.
True, but Germany bending over backwards to please Turkey is driving EU closer to Asia.

Couldn't agree more. Thinking that Turkey is going to become a member of the EU eventually, is just...no. When pigs fly, basically.

Turkey could join if it had institutionalized a better democracy and human rights. EU could use a member like Turkey, but with its current state, not going to happen.

Its very simple. The deal with turkey could stand if we didnt have laws. We do have laws though and eventually someone will just make the point that the deal does not respect the rules currently in place for refugees.

The article has conflicting stories about the exact ruling.

However, the EU-Turkey deal is actually working as intended: arrivals in April are down 90% compared to last month, http://frontex.europa.eu/news/number...n-april-6e7oBw (compared to the normal increase once winter ends) - and the numbers using the Libyan-Italian route are much smaller.

By reducing the number of arrivals they can be kept in Greece; and thus the rest of Europe don't have to deal with the problem, except Portugal that want refugees but are unable to attract them: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...-to-get-enough

However, for some reason Germany still claims to be receiving more than 50,000 asylum claims every month this year. The simplest explanation is just that they didn't have time to register everyone last year and the new claims are just the result of working through the back-log - which may take until after summer.

Considering the entrance of Eastern Europeans, perhaps earlier? The real question is would Turkey want to join EU once it has all of its qualities up and running.

The EU should threaten Turkey with war, then watch Erdogan doing anything the EU wants.
