Upgrade to Windows 10 or stick with 7 ?

So i have had the windows 10 notification for a while. Always popping up saying upgrade to windows 10. I've always closed it (Wasnt sure if i should upgrade to it or not). However, it seems that i haven't got a choice anymore as its downloaded the update and its ready to install soon i a click shutdown.

So, is windows 10 worth upgrading to? I seem to see a lot of negative feedback about it. Will 10 use up more resources such as hard drive space and Ram usage? Shall i revert back to 7 once it updates to 10?

im currently using 7. I find that 7 is perfect. no clutter, no useless crap. loads really quickly with instant navigation between applications. I mainly use excel, word and access, with the occasional gaming session (wow, diablo, counterstrike). Have had no problems.

    So, Win 10 or 7 ?

(Thanks in advance for any opinions)

    Personally I haven't had all that much trouble with it - i-5 4440 3.1Ghz and 8GB.

    It's basically Win8.1 ...

Didn't really notice any difference performance wise from 8.1 that I was using.

Runs WoW, Diablo and FFXIV just fine.
Internet forums are more for circlejerking (patting each other on the back) than actual discussion (exchange and analysis of information and points of view). Took me long enough to realise ...

Up to you but personally I have had no issues with it. Most people are just concerned with the whole privacy stuff which really isn't a big deal.

Same, I have not experienced any significant issues with it either.
Though our experience does not equal that of everyone.

Hard drive space usage is less from my experience.
Windows 10 does come with a lot of clutter by default, particularly apps pinned on the start menu.
You may find yourself removing a lot of that.
Some can be uninstalled via the "proper" means, while some will have to be via another method.
CCleaner supports uninstalling the windows 10 apps, but restoration could be more problematic particularly if you uninstall the store app.

You have 30 days to revert back, though do proper backups first anyway. An image ideally if you can.

So giving up all of your information for advertisements in the start menu and bloatware isn't a big deal ?
You're giving them for free the most important thing you have as a consumer and they are giving you literally nothing in return, and you are somehow happy about it ?

There has been no proof of the more extreme suggestions, such as spying through your webcam etc though Microsoft could do with being a more more open on exactly what it is, and offer the option of turning it off completely for all users, instead of just their well paying enterprise customers.
Really most people who use any google service will have handed over a lot of similar information.

Well I haven't had any info stolen yet so I don't see an issue with it. Also nearly all of the bloatware is removable like any pc that comes with it. Also I would hardly call being given their most recent OS for free "nothing".

OP, if I were you, I'd wait at least until SP1 is released for win10.

Although, have to admit, I dislike win10 A LOT. Which is strange, considering I am in love with win8...
No more time wasted in WoW.. still reading this awesome forum, though

I'm not working with suggestions here, I'm assuming all they do is follow their EULA, which is dangerous enough.

It is literally nothing. 95% of the code is the same as Windows 8, the rest is the bloatware. All of the performance improvements you're happy about, such as the hybrid boot, are from Windows 8.

Personally I prefer Windows 7 (SP1), Windows 10 is pretty much letting Microsoft into your computer without much trouble. Thing is though, you will need W10 at one point as a gamer since most upcoming PC games will be built on W10. Get a Mac or even better a computer with Linux for keeping data private and W10 exclusive for gaming or media (movies, Kindle, etc).

If you don’t care about privacy, go W10 for everything.

Privacy thing really isn't as bad as people are making it out to be though.

I bought a new PC 1 or 2 months back and it came pre-installed with windows 10.

I've had no issues with it, tho I do hate the start menu...or at least, I don't like the renamed options. Until recently I didn't realize Notepad was under a "Windows Accessories" under the "W" section of all programs, I just expected to see it under the "N" section, which it doesn't.

That’s a personal preference. I like to keep my privacy, and many will agree with me.

Windows 7 will be the last version of windows I use. I'll be transitioning to Linux I think. Windows 10 seems like a buggier version of 7, with the horrible aesthetics of 8.

Never used Linux so sorry for the silly question but how do you run stuff like WoW and other games that were built around Windows? I'm guessing an emulator or something?

Do you really think that Microsoft didn't patch older Windows versions to spy on you just the same way 10 does?

    Really?

Basically, yes. Either games have native Linux support, like some games on Steam(Linux) have now, or you use Wine, which tells software that it's running on Windows, when it's really not. So yeah, an emulator.

Lol at you autists arguing about big bad Microsoft spying on you. Like anyone has any interest in your views about flying in WoW or if you are into softcore elf porn.

You probably give up more information when you do a mortgage/insurance/credit card comparision or if you book a flight to the USA.

Pretty much this. I really don't care about the security thing. I like windows 10.

Inb4 wine is not an emulator (which is what wine stands for in the first place) but an overlay letting linux access windows functions but anyway, not a significant distinction and wow on wine works fine in any case, however a few years back when I ran linux as main os (wrath/cata days) there was a slight input lag on larger group content so ie 25m content was unpleasant to play. Don't know if it's the same now.

On topic; running windows 10 and have had no issues, nor any noticeable breaches of privacy, spam anywhere or the like. Albeit that might be regional, perhaps. Between windows 10 and 7 there is a small but noticeable difference in how fast the computer boots (win10 is faster), everything else is pretty similar. Win 10 for all practical purposes appears as a hybrid between 7 and 8 and the alarmist voices -as of yet- haven't proven to be right. Win 10 is a good os, put simply.

One caveat for me personally, my asus soundcard will bug out now and then making the audio on one of my speakers noticeably lower (not dead but almost) than the other, that issue is persistant even after I changed to the custom drivers from maxedtech. It's a fairly minor nuisance as a reboot fixes the issue but still, it's there.

If at any point the win10 alarmists should be proven right, you may always change to another os at that point, but I see no reason to bend backwards just to circumvent the upgrade at this point in time.
