If that's riotfest you're talking about don't forget While She sleeps, Sikth, Animals as Leaders and Creeper.

All fantastic live bands in their own right.

Recently discovered this band, I can dig it.
Usually listen to stuff like Lamb of God, Slipknot and the more known bands, but as long as there are good riffs I'm sold.
I also dig Hatebreed, Trivium, Butcher babies, In flames, Machine head, In this moment, Otep, Gojira, While She Sleeps and the list goes on and on(there are so many great bands imo). I owe my fascination with everything metal to my dad who raised me while listening to ACDC, Metallica, Megadeth, Aerosmith, Alice in Chains and other such good bands. These days I occasionally show him new bands that I think sound great.

Also loving the new things I learn about in this thread.

So, would you like some groove with your groove, so you can groove while you groove?

Reminds me of Mastodon quite a lot.
Sounds drastically different to Stranded as well.

This album is going to be off the wall I reckon.

Also seeing Wolves in the Throne Room in September.

edit: Wasn't this album supposed to be a very intimate and cathartic experience anyway since the Duplantier brothers lost their mother during the recording of this album and all that? Also, keep in mind that this is the material they scrapped an entire album for, which just makes it all the more disappointing.
Maybe what they've put out is what is cathartic for them.

It's fine to not like what they've put out but don't be pompous and try to second guess their mindset motivation and capabilities and imply they should have in the direction you want them to go in.
Let them do what they like and if it doesn't float your boat then move along.

I just think it's innapropriate to expect, for lack of a better term, loss to be reflected in artistic creation.
Let em do what they want.

Also the messages on this track and stranded are both just as present as on previous albums, just more obvious perhaps. Still stoked for the album, both tracks far from terrible.

Of course but don't bring the loss of their mother into their creative process, or in your opinion the lack thereof, not to put words in your mouth.

I had the pleasure of meeting them when they were playing at the Rocksane in my home town donkeys ago, which is like a 50 person shithole venue and you couldn't wish for more genuine and nice guys.
I trust them to put out quality that they want to put out.

Note, there's a number of other good bands which I didn't list, yet consider better than Carach Angren. Black metal in particular is a very popular genre in the Netherlands with bands like Galg, Wederganger, Ibex Angel Order and a slew of others. You might also want to check out Witte Wieven if you are curious.
Yah you make good points but I consider Pestilence kind of a thing of the past, and so is The Gathering. I will have a look into the other bands you mentioned. Thanks a lot for the tips! Since I don't live in the Netherlands at the moment I have been quite out of the scene there unfortunately.

Saw At The Drive-In and Le Bucherettes last night. Stunning show.

Le Butcherettes left me speechless. Outstanding performance. First time seeing them live and they live up to their much vaunted reputation of absolutely savage live performances. I couldn't even.

ATDI were fabulous too. Someone mentioned earlier in thread about their friend seeing a disappointing performance from ATDI. That was not the case last night at all. ATDI came out fucking slayed.

I last saw ATDI in August of 1999 prior to yesterday's show. That was 17 year ago. Back then ATDI put on one of the best, most intense shows I had ever experienced- I have seen Dissection, Death, Refused, Melt Banana, L-D, MBV, The Ramones, James Chance, Goo/Dirty Boots era SY, Dillinger, Converge, Kataklysm, Trash Talk, Bad Brains, Rollins' Black Flag, etc. So ATDI being among the finest and most intense says a lot.

Last night ATDI were on it bruh. Though not quite the same as seeing them perform in a bowling alley in 1999- the band played and performed with incredible ferocity and volume. Goddamn ear splitting volume, one of the most passionate performances from Cedric I had seen and a crowd that was totally fucking insane.

I was nearly crushed to death. Took several kicks to the back of my head and was covered in sweat and beer. The barrier that protects the stage was literally coming apart. The security had to reinforce the barrier on the spot. That's how batshit the place was going. They played a long set- almost all of Relationship of Command, half of Vaya and a few songs from In Casino Out.

Cedric collapsed in the arms of myself and the girl next to me and we held him as he literally wept singing his heart out on Sleepwalk Capsules. Beautiful moment.

I caught a t-shirt and a drum head during the encore (One Armed Scissor, natch). Was front and dead center for the entire show.

Almost 20 years on and ATDI still put on a jaw dropping high intensity show.

Sorry this is not actually metal. But some metal bros here expressed interest privately and so I obliged in thread.

I'm usually in the very front, have a VIP pass and Chicago crowds are very high energy.

The girl from Le Bucherettes leap into the crowd several times and fell over the railing. Meanwhile she kept singing and spazzing out. I got it on video actually. She lost her shoe at one point and performed on her tiptoes to make up for the missing heel. She also spilled an entire beer on stage than proceeded to get mildly electrocuted I think (from her reaction).

Cedric stage dived several times too. Including stretching his entire body from the stage to the guard railing (like 5 feet?) while alternatively jumping from drum sets, amps, whirling the mic like a helicopter (I actually got hit by the mic in the back of my head), destroying the drum set as the drummer played nonstop.

When I saw Amon Amarth, Entombed AD and Exmortus 2 weeks ago- the theater almost tore itself apart. A local popular metal club had to close down permanently because a riot broke out during a Exodus/Obituary show.

People go fucking nuts at live shows in the US and the bands respond to that energy more often than not.

Really? All the European bands that come through (iirc, you are from Germany) have VIP passes where one gets to meet & greet, take photos, get some merch and shuffled to the front of the stage if desired.

Amon Amarth, Mgla, Rotting Christ, At the Gates, Abbath, blah, blah- all have VIP passes. Just about every single band and artist that plays in the US has a VIP package.

Here's the aforementioned video of Le Butcherettes' lead singer falling into the crowd during her super passionate performance.

Only able to grab a few minutes of ATDI performing "Arcarsenal" as the opener before I was forced to hang on to the railing for dear life. I was being absolutely crushed and manhandled as soon as the faster tempo started. Could not move my arms at all afterward. So this is all the video and photos I was able to grab actually.

This show was goddamn insane. I loved it totally.

Speaking of Converge, I could only grab a few minutes of video (like 3 mins total of the whole performance) because the crowd was so crazy when I last saw them play.

    https://youtu.be/GX29GuGsOSE

Converge and DEP are two of the most insane bands I ever seen. Easily. I feel SO good walking out of their shows.

I may have commented before that I noticed European crowds are very mellow, polite and generally dull/uninteresting. I was disappointed by every live performance and theater performance I ever saw in the year I spent abroad.

(Sorry for the poor video quality- cellphone and I am usually being crushed/tossed left & right. So I do the best I can with what I got at the time.)

Most of the concerts I attend over here happen at small venues with comparatively small crowds. Most of the time you can pretty much choose where you want to stand until the main act comes on. I'm usually in the first or second row.

As I said, Dillinger was one of the wilder concerts I attended as you can see here, but that's still pretty much nothing, even if you don't compare it to how crazy people go over in the US.

Usually the bands just hang out in front of the venue over here too and also tend to mix in with the crowd sometimes. When I went to see The Hirsch Effekt recently their drummer just watched some of the opener's set right beside me.

Le Butcherettes actually sound pretty interesting, I'll check out some of their stuff.
Yea, band members hang out here too. When we saw Abbath/Tribulation/Skeletonwitch a few weeks ago; they were all just hanging at the bar downstairs from the venue drinking with the fans.

George Clarke from Deafheaven was hanging out at Stan's Donut Shop (a famous spot here in Chicago) just around the corner from the venue they were going to play at later that night. Was just sipping coffee and chatting with a few fans and stuff. Shiv walked in, got some donuts to-go and that was that.

Even before the ATDI show on Friday, there were a few techs and the drummer from Le Butcherettes hanging out across the street at the very (in)famous jazz bar called The Green Mill. Drinking and listening to the jazz band rehearse for later that night.

We were at the other end of the bar drinking Malort, Alpha King and eating tacos. It was cool.

VIP passes are done a lot more in the States.
Why that is I'm not sure I vote because more people have cash to chuck at it.

Met Tesseract with one cause it was cheap but otherwise isn't worth it.

Especially when the warmup band almost always hangs around (and with my top class social skills I blag my way into a meet and greet).
