Exams on Saturday were the worst because the school and the transit system wouldn't communicate. Usually we had buses running every 6 minutes to the university. Saturdays it was once an hour. Must have been like 300 people waiting for the bus when I got there. A few of us jumped in a cab and were going to split the cost but right before we left a random guy asked to share with us as well. When we got up there he paid for the whole ride.

Yes, it was the same for me during undergrad studies. On Saturdays/Sundays, the railroad was only functional until around 11:30 AM and was back online only at around 2 PM. I had classes on Saturdays the majority of semesters, and those classes would usually end around 12:30 PM. So I had a choice: either to wait for 1.5 hours on campus, or to take a bus which was 3 times as expensive as train, took 3 times as much time to get to the subway station, and just was extremely inconvenient and crowded.

    ---

By the way, who came up with the idea that the order of hours should be like 11 AM, 12 PM, 1 PM? It doesn't make sense! Should be 11 AM, 12 AM, 1 PM!

My university gave us all transit passes. I would just drive to the skytrain station, take the skytrain to the the station closest to the school and then take a bus up the mountain.

That actually makes perfect sense, because PM = post meridiem = after noon.

Should be 0 PM then, rather than 12 PM. 12 PM is 12 hours post meridiem, that is midnight!

So, if the number was the actual number of hours in relation to noon, 11 AM is 11 hours before (ante) noon then?

Or just use 24h, silly muricans.

Hmm, didn't think of that... Still though, 0 should go before 1, not 12!

Agree with 24h. As well as with m, km, kg, Celsius. Plus, European 9 is superior to castrated American one.

What European 9? Like, the number? is there a difference?

Americans typically handwrite 9 without the arc on bottom, just finishing it with a straight line. Like this:

For example, when we grade exams together with other TAs and I write 9 the European way, my friend complains that it looks very much like 'g' letter. "This is how we write 9 in the free world", she says and then draws this abomination. To me, the American version looks like 'q', so I don't see how it is advantageous...

    To be fair...
    The "EU 9" is a friggin' lowercase 'G' .
That being said, that figure is wrong too; Cause' that is a damned lowercase 'Q'. :P

Either way, I don't write my '9's that way.. But I'm odd and single, sooo...

I do prefer the EU dating method, though!

    Day/ Month/ Year!
It makes so much more sense!

My old job was strange, the program and printer we used went Year/ Month/ Day, but that still makes more sense then the stupid US standard of 'Month-Day- Last two digits of the year'

I swear to gods, I'm going to start signing my dates in Roman Numerals or in Chinese numbers.

    YES, CHINESE.
BECAUSE FOR THE SAKE OF TROLLING, I CAN DO "+++" TO MEAN "10+10"

    Sigh!!
Now MMOC is being dumb, again! >,<!

Wonder if it has to do with the 40+ ads being block on this page >_>

Oh, completely forgot to mention this... Yes, it is so nonsensical! :/ I usually write, say, "May 11, 2011", to avoid confusion.

Since I work at CMS collaboration, which is based in Switzerland, but is very multinational, and the largest sub-group in it is the American one - this often confuses everyone. Say, an American tech specialist send out a message, "The next beam run starts on 03/02/16". And everyone wonders, "Is it March 2nd or February 1st?".

I prefer YYYY-MM-DD (ISO 8601). Reversing that order is also okay, but everything else is completely wrong. Especially writing year with two digits, Im not used to that at all and I like to be able to read the dates at a glance and not having to think about if "09" is the year or the day/month. Having the year with 4 digits and always having the date in order (month always being next to year) makes it easy to read and understand at a glance and keeps it consistent.

Also 12-hour time is bad. 24 hour time is more accurate and easier/faster to read.

24-Hour time has always confused me. I actually like it, I always just get confused by it. Not sure why; I just always draw a blank when people start mentioning a time in a 24-hour format.

Even though I'm in the Pacific time zone, where I worked (And what got stuck in my head for ever, and I still screw up sometimes.) we used Central time to sync up with Fort-Wroth/Chicago/St.Louis/Dallas/Phoenix And a few other major transportation hub areas in the mid-west. Which I always thought was strange, because we're linked to Seattle and Portland for Ports.

I get annoyed with people who do the 2-digit thing in when Years, Months, and Days like up to the single digits... like 9/9/9... Or 10/10/10... So on... Most confusing shit ever.

My checks and a few other things require me to use the Month/Day/Year format, and it is annoying as hell; And been considering on using PayPal or something similar for online banking because of that, and for several other reasons. Biggest drawback I have with PayPal, is that Check processing can take up to a week before an account will be updated, where with Credit Unions here in the US, it is pretty much immediate.

I think 12 hour with AM and PM is more confusing. Well, not exactly confusing, but I always go through a short thought process after reading 11 am for example, first I read 11 obviously and then I wonder if its day or evening, and try to remember what am and pm stands for, and I know pm = post something and post = after, and don't really need to know what am stands for as long as I know one of them.
Compared to 24 hour when I see instantly what time it is without having to think about it.

Well in those exampled its pretty irrelevant though since it would still give the same result regardless of which number you choose as day/month/year. Well, maybe year could become screwed up if you are looking at older documents!
It still doesn't make any sense to type dates like this though. Those people are obviously oblivious to the fact that there exists mutliple date formats.

Didn't realise that you could use PayPal as a bank. I bound my debit card to PayPal and pay with paypal directly from my card, thats about it.
