I still hope in a Director's Cut version of the movie.

"Epic in scale, but overly-familiar in shape, Legendary Pictures’ “Warcraft,” is so easily identifiable it begs the question: will fantasy films ever break free from the ruling influence of “The Lord of the Rings“? Genres typically proliferate in directions far beyond their seminal works; sci-fi films like “Metropolis,” “2001: A Space Odyssey” or “Star Wars” all have their own vision. Yet the high fantasy fiction of J.R.R. Tolkien, which soared to popularity in the 1960s, still retains a tight hold on most sword-and-sorcery imaginations. “Warcraft” may be a loose adaptation of video games with sci-fi leanings, which theoretically should break it out of the mold, but its collision of men and orcs, with a few dwarves and elves in the mix, ultimately feels like yet another disciple of Tolkien’s fantasy commandments.""
Sounds like the project was doomed under that regard from the get-go. In other words: Never make a fantasy movie that was build on/inspired by LotR.

Because we have to compare it to another universe that is also fantasy! And yes! Let us say the other one is better because reasons!

Seriously I am getting sick of this. For the next superhero movie I want to hear people compare it to Civil War. Doesn't matter which hero it will feature, just compare it and critisize it for the heck of it...

    Dumb tiring rant
Well, I think you kind of answered the reason why they keep bringing up the Lord of the Rings. With the exception of the Harry Potter series, how many fantasy films in the last 10-20 years have been well received as well as made massive amounts of money? Now compare that to the super hero genre, which has had massive box office hits for years now as well as some critically acclaimed pieces like the Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2, X-Men Days of Future Past, X-Men First Class, and the list goes on.

The fact of the matter is that the Lord of the Rings defined the fantasy genre and there have been very few fantasy movies or franchises for that matter that have made this type of genre diverse, especially when it comes to critical acclaim. That's just the reality of the situation, I'm afraid.

People need to accept the fact that it is not a well told story from a non-fan's perspective. There is a bias against video game movies in general and LOTR looking one especially. This is still not a good movie. Fans on the other hand don't need a good movie.

I am going to divest myself from forum, watch it when it arrives in US and be done with it. This movie is not going to received well with critics and audience these critics might influence. At this point, this much negativity might even push away potential movie goers in China! What can we do.

Problem is that movie has too many flaws for that to matter. From being decent, it got pushed down to mediocre or worse.

Why people have to accept something that haven't seen yet?...

Holy crap, the overreaction, what "this much negativy"? And China has already 400 million in pre-sales.

Same. I will likely enjoy that version more considering a review mentioned the issue with the length of the movie.

    Calm down, people.

Let's wait for at least 100 reviews to decide if the movie is good or bad. And even there, we should watch it to decide if those 100 reviews are really legit.

    - - - Updated - - -

But I admit I go mad when I read things like "Warcraft movie destroyed by critics" while it's been just criticized by 3-4 critics. And people will read that and decided that the movie sucks

I do hope a sequel gets made and Duncan, if he directs it takes all the feedback into account. Make it a 3 hour movie, get some proper story and characters going on.

This can't be the end of Warcraft. I wanna see more ...

Could it be because WC is heavily influenced by Tolkiens' work? Maybe it shows on screen?

5 bad reviews on RT seems so bad... until you see literally no negative responses from the generals audience that have already watched the movie and loved it.
The most hilarious thing are some people who, quote,
so happy warcraft movie sucks *insert the link to comicmovie site news*
because 5 dudes on RT said so. Yep, the movie is bad because 5 dudes said so (and general audience, that is like, thousands people, that aren't worse than these "critics", liked it). They are so pathetic.

"If you haven’t already invested in the self-serious mythology, it can feel borderline camp, if not downright dull — or both"

registered as a positive review on rotten tomatoes lol

so even the good reviews are bad. oh boy...

Yep, people are now bringing racial/political conspiracy theories into their "reviews".
They obviously don't know the lore because the Horde invading is essential to the survival of Azeroth.

No, but for political agenda, it might be good.

I personnaly LOVED the movie. As a fan of warcraft I don't give a single fuck about what reviews say. And I honestly can't see how you wont like it if you like the universe, or maybe I can. Blizzard haters will love to hate it, and lore nitpickers will love to hate the small changes.

But I totally enjoyed it. Was really amazed by seeing in "real" all the places I visited in the game. To see the characters on screen. To see the universe take life. Was amazing.

I don't really care about the success it will have. I left the theatre with a big smile, I saw the warcraft univers alive, me am happy. Let haters hate. I only hope that it will be successful enough to have a sequel (and many, many, more).

Seems like there's a lot of mixed reactions from critics. Metacritic et al have given it shit reviews, while one of the biggest danish newspapers have called it "one of the best fantasy films ever"
