SJWs don't exist... in the eyes of the internet find a stupid story tag it SJW and now you've created an SJW.

I do feel bad for kids who have shitty parents, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be a shitty parent too, just to "level the playing field."

Something happened over the last 15 years where the special snowflake mentality compounded by the 'you hurt my feelings that makes you a thought criminal' rhetoric leads to people demanding standards are lowered rather than expectations raised.

Like the phrase goes "Idiocracy was not meant to be a how to guide!"

you really are oblivious to differing social levels and interaction aren't you?

get past the absurd headlines and try to consider the underlying issues.

Kids from poorer social backgrounds have a harder time, their parents have less resources (money and time), they likely live in deprived areas where local services are cut back and there are less libraries etc, as well as less public transport etc to access them, and if in rural areas travel distances can be large.

Their parents probably don't have the skills or education at the same level as more affluent parents to pass onto their kids and the social circumstances mean that less value is placed on such skills culturally.

Opportunity is not equal. if you think its just a case of give them a book and its sorted, you are sadly ignorant.
Of course the idea you stop reading to more affluent kids is absurd, but thats the kind of headline grabbing thing you need to say to draw attention to issues. The opportunity differential between affluent and deprived kids has been known for ages, but little that actually has an impact has been done about it.

It's just funny that some people on this website seem to spend an ungodly amount of time looking for people saying/doing something stupid and then whining about them. Like, how will you react if someone comes up to you and says, "I think aliens are controlling us"? Don't know about you, but I would just shrug and be on my way. But no, some people need to post the story everywhere: on Twitter, Facebook, these forums - and to go through similar posts from others to express their outrage.

Once upon a time there was a place where people met to talk about video games, and a load of other assorted stuff. Someone dug up a thing of satire and presented it as "some internet wackjob who wants to destroy families," and many turds were flung. The collective blood pressure spiked, and some laughs were had.

. . . And some things that should have been forgotten were lost.
History became legend, legend became myth, and for eight and a half thousand hours the thing passed out of all knowledge. . .

. . . until, when chance came, it ensnared a new poster.
The thing came to the creature Xarim, Who took it deep into the fora of the MMO Champions, And there it resumed with them.

The thing brought to Xarim unnatural strong strife. For five hundred minutes it poisoned the board, and in the gloom of Xarim’s thread it baited.

Story time's over. Now sleep tight, my privileged little shitlords.

    Bedtime-story privilege?

According to a professor at the University of Warwick in England, parents who read to their kids should be thinking about how they’re “unfairly disadvantaging other people’s children” by doing so.

In an interview with ABC Radio last week, philosopher and professor Adam Swift said that since “bedtime stories activities . . . do indeed foster and produce . . . [desired] familial relationship goods,” he wouldn’t want to ban them, but that parents who “engage in bedtime-stories activities” should definitely at least feel kinda bad about it sometimes: “I don’t think parents reading their children bedtime stories should constantly have in their minds the way that they are unfairly disadvantaging other people’s children, but I think they should have that thought occasionally,” he said.

But Swift also added that some other things parents do to give their kids the best education possible — like sending them to “an elite private school” — “cannot be justified” in this way. “Private schooling cannot be justified by appeal to these familial relationship goods,” he said.

”It’s just not the case that in order for a family to realize these intimate, loving, authoritative, affectionate, love-based relationships you need to be able to send your child to an elite private school,” he continued, adding that “we could prevent elite private schooling without any real hit to elite family relationships.”

At one point, Swift even flirted with the idea of “simply abolishing the family” as a way of “solving the social justice problem” because “there would be a more level playing field” if we did, but ultimately concluded that “it is in the child’s interest to be parented” and that “parenting a child makes for what we call a distinctive and special contribution to the flourishing and well-being of adults.”

In general, I tend to believe that focusing on improving things for the less fortunate is a better way to advance our society than purposely making things worse for those who have more, but what do I know? After all, it’s not like I’m a philosopher or anything.
Wow...just....fucking wow. SJW's are a cancer in society. "Don't read to your children because it will put a disadvantage to minority children who don't have bed time stories read to them because their parents cant read either" Basically, make everyone dumber to even the playing field. Ever seen the movie "Idiocracy"? I firmly believe with the help of the socialist left that the world will be just like that. Where EVERYONE is dumb in the name of "equality". Fuck equality. Read a damned book you lazy fucks.

Anyways, we don't move forward by lowering the standard/lives of people, we do it by elevating those that are below the current standard.
What if they don't have a desire to rise above the current minimum standards because they just don't care? #BLM

I can't believe that some people still haven't clicked through and actually read the interview. It's a thought experiment. He basically says (near the end) that of course it's a stupid idea and that parent's shouldn't stop reading to their kids.

You have to allow parents to engage in bedtime stories activities, in fact we encourage them because those are the kinds of interactions between parents and children that do indeed foster and produce these [desired] familial relationship goods.

I don’t think parents reading their children bedtime stories should constantly have in their minds the way that they are unfairly disadvantaging other people’s children, but I think they should have that thought occasionally

He's still holding into the flawed premise that if somebody else has an advantage it gives somebody else an inherent disadvantage.

That's some bullshit thinking right there. And when you look at it that way you essentially preclude the philosophy of bringing all children to the same level of advantage.

And moreover if I was like "YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF PRIVILEGED SCUM BAGS AND YOU'RE HOLDING ME DOWN BECAUSE YOUR MOTHER READ TO YOU AS A CHILD jj guys it was just a thought experiment" I'd still be a douche wad.
