Why is Blizzard increasing the time needed to levelup when adding 10 levels?

I HATE leveling. Not because it's not hard, but because it's boring. And it's not boring because it's not hard, it's boring because:
    • The classes are not interesting before max level
    • We've been doing the same kind of quests over and over for 10 years
    • The leveling zones are empty
    • The gameplay is painfully slow
    • It's just a part that I don't have any interest in but that is 100% mandatory for the other 90% of the game

The only logical reason for Blizzard to increase the time needed to go to level 100 is for the new players they're expecting to come with the movie (which is probably not going to be a large number anyway), but
    • New players are not experienced in the game, so it's going to take them a lot of time anyway
    • They don't have access to heirlooms

Considering this, and the fact that the leveling experience is bad (and not because it's "too fast"), I really, really, really don't understand why is Blizzard punishing the current players for the sake of providing a slightly better experience to players that are most likely going to stop after the free month.

And actually, I'm not even concerned directly by the change since I already have all classes at least level 90.

Because that is what the players want.

And you seem to believe that general xp requirements elsewhere are not going to change.
What they are doing is fixing an outlier in ONE route, one they feel is too rewarding compared to others.

The leveling was broken and it's not engaging for new players to experience a broken game experience. Also even veterans didn't like the fact that is was broken.

This makes it pretty cut and dry. Well put.

And if they had plans to "positively" tweak the experience, they obviously wouldn't have done it in the same time ?

No, they don't want it to be longer, they want it to be better. If something that is boring takes even longer, people will stop doing it. And if people stop leveling their character, they won't play.

Your comment makes it sound like all veterans agree with this. This isn't true and can be seen by veterans buying the XP boosts, etc.

The next question is what is to stop them from doing it to the remaining levels? While new players should have a slower experience the veterans should be able to boost a lot faster. Granted we have BoA's, but by the time you are on your 10th+ toon even that doesn't feel fast enough. Sure you can whip out the credit card and buy insta level, but at least leveling you get "some" experience with the toon rather than diving headfirst in at 90/100 and figuring everything out at once.

Because they've made leveling overall 10 times faster and wants to correct that awful mistake.

Nothing lasts forever, as they say.
But at least I can casually play Classic and remember when MMORPGs were good.

Leveling CAN be fun. Don't think of it as a job. Think of it as an experience. The sooner you do that, the sooner playing through the levels becomes fun!

Ever since they started adding 10 levels they've made each previous leveling bracket that much faster, to where low levels take like 5 quests to get a level. that's kind of absurd. The other problem is you can go 10 or so levels early on without getting anything useful to change up your gameplay, so it's really just a huge mess all around imo. the leveling pacing in wow is something they probably should fix, but that will come at the expense of time that could be put forth at end game. no matter what people are not gonna like where the resources are allocated.

They've already answered this question, OP.

Leveling is too fast. So they're slowing it down. If you have a problem with it, you can buy the character boost for $60.

It's a ridiculous notion, but Blizzard has proven to be a poorly managed company in the past 3-5 years, with incredible mistakes that continue to be made.

Because leveling experience is part of game. Considering now that more people will join after the movie is released it's actually good opportunity to fix it and make it fun and engaging. 1 shoting mobs is not fun if you're playing for the first time.

I do. And leveling in WoD was good, Legion is good.

You having an opinion about leveling being boring is an opinion not shared by all. Questing/Leveling is really fun for many people. Making leveling easy makes it less meaningful and less engaging - which is why it would make it boring. When you get so many levels in an hour - people wonder why Blizzard even makes you level in the first place. At least now leveling will feel a little more meaningful.

Besides, the quest and story itself is quite amazing, imo. For the new players or people wanting to go back and level again, I think it's good to slow down the pace so the full scope of questing is felt.

It's really not a mistake, the game isn't as mysterious as it used to be in Vanilla. The problem is the quests are dated and boring, the zones after doing them again after the revamp are boring. If it was more engaging and fun and the quests weren't stale my bet is people wouldn't care how long it took to level. Half the reason the first time you level a character is "fun" is because it's new and mysterious...but as you level more and more it goes from fun and mysterious to boring and grindy.

Is it? I see no evidence to suggest longer levelling is wanted by the players. The fact that the majority of staring zones have many players riding heirloom motorcycles would suggest otherwise.

Oh no, they slightly nerfed the EXP in Deadmines. I'd better come cry on the forums about it.

    Players want it.

Low levels is boring for new players.

    Alts is even boring.
Content drought is a combination of catchup mechanics and no new content.

Low level content shouldn't be as faceroll as it has been for a while now, but that said, they could make the leveling experience a little more challenging without increasing XP or making the time it takes to level much longer.
