I know it's futile me repeating this, but this isn't Blizzard. Every studio isn't going to employ its own department to prosecute copyright infringements and the like.

More likely the parent company (Activision) along with many other companies outsource this work to some firm that specialises in it. So think about it from their perspective - they charge clients a sum (no doubt hefty) for the service of protecting their IP. They need something to show they've done that every month to justify their existence. Therefore they issue notices like this one, even spurious ones, even ones that might make Blizzard look bad or silly. They don't care, they're just trying to make a monthly report look good. X attempted uses of your copyright foiled this month! Yay us!

Many of the videos use mesh models ripped directly from the games, which count as illegal seizure of intellectual property. Companies have a right to protect their own, personally made material. That's all there is to it.

If you want to make fan anything, you need to create original content. You cannot rip data right from the game and then use it. Some companies will look the other way, others will not.

Honestly, beyond that, I've seen companies attempt to fight porn of their characters .. and all of them have lost. This will be no different.

A quick google search reveals there are still dozens and dozens of videos all over, so nah, it's not dead and it never will be. Look up any video game you want to see porn of, it's there.

I think the number one thing contributing to Overwatch's initial splash was that Blizzard really nailed instant character appeal. They're simple, bright, colourful, easily identifiable characters with distinct recognisable archetypes. That's what made Tracer leap off the page at the announcement Blizzcon and to varying degrees it's true of the other heroes too.

That kind of appeal leads is also the main draw to R34 authors. And cosplayers for that matter.

Because very little to next to none use actual warcraft assets. While the Overwatch stuff is being ripped straight from the game. People making their own drawings or gifs/videos from the ground up are not being touched by this. This is an IP issue more than a porn issue. Lesson is you can have your Tracer x Widowmaker (Who which over Overwatch Character(s) you want) just make them your own drawings and you won't be touched.
