Really sad. She had an amazing voice and it is so unfortunate that some deranged lunatic took her life.

Except gun regulation bill has no chance to pass. There is too much money involved in firearms industry.
Corrupted politicans on corporate payroll will block it and republican media outlets will spew their pro-gun propaganda as they always do.

There definitely needs to be stricter laws. There arent any details about how the guns were obtained but if they were obtained legally, then background checks requiring about a persons mental status needs to be added. A person that has been clinically shown to have mental issues, should not be able to legally own a firearm.

That assumes the shooter had mental issues at the time of the sell. A mental check for a gun purchase in 2016 isn't going to prevent me from going insane and shooting people in 2020.

It's not mental illness. It's a normal (though extreme) human stress response. Most people are capable of it. Let's not resign these tragic events to fate. I don't think it does victims any justice.

How do you know he didnt have any mental illness?

There have been many cases where the person has been shown to have had mental illness issues before times of purchase. Checking for this will at least prevent this person from obtaining a firearm legally.

I think we absolutely should check people for mental illness. But I don't think it's reasonable to pretend that these checks will stop things like this from happening - they might reduce the incidence a bit, but they will not address the core of the problem, which is weak social support. People who feel like they have nothing to live for do things like this. And that is not a mental illness. That's an outcome of circumstance (as even some classified mental illnesses are).

Look at the list, then think real, real hard about what point is made.

Why should the permit go unchecked for lifetime, instead of renewed check every few years?

Treat it like a drivers license, that'd be a start.

I agree. People should have to frequently prove they are still qualified to own either.

I have no clue who this is, but it's sad to hear about someone in their prime getting killed by a mentally unstable person.
