Need help with a computer build

I am wanting to help a friend build a computer for legion and I am not near as experienced of most of you on the forums.
I have a processor and motherboard I can give him(if you guys think they are quality) and the rest he will need.

Can someone help me build a $400 WoW and LoL Computer? (no monitor or keyboard needed)

I plan on giving him a processor(if it works it has sat in a box for about 10 months) and a brand new motherboard. I also have 8gb of ram but it came with a gaming computer I bought 4-5 years ago and I'm thinking it needs upgraded.

    THE PIECES I HAVE
    Asus H97-PLUS HDMI, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0 ATX DDR3 1600, LGA 1150 Motherboards
    Intel Core i3-2120 3.3GHz

that cpu and motherboard are not compatible for a start, the i3-2120 is a 1155 and your motherboard is 1150. if the ram is ddr3 it is probably fine though.

Well Shoot - so I probably should just keep the MB and have him buy everything new? Any suggestion on a build?

If you went with an i5-4690 build, you could use that motherboard and RAM to save a little. It would work well enough, though I generally recommend buying the most current CPUs, there is not going to much of a performance difference. With that small of a budget though, any savings helps.

The 960 is a placeholder, I would get one of the new 480s when they are out at the end of the month. Yes, I realize this goes over budget, but you could buy now, sans video card and run the internal one then save up for the 480 when it comes out.

I wouldn't buy a dual core CPU nowadays. Even if it can handle WoW and basic tasks, it feels dated.

I know it goes a bit over budget, but I'd really recommend the i5 I linked above and waiting for the RX 480. A dual core is just really not enough nowadays and the RX480 is going to be 980 like performance for $200. It's really worth it. If he needs a copy of Windows, get it from kinguin and save a bundle. Also, does he have specific need for the optical drive? I have not used one in years.

I appreciate the help. I will talk to him about waiting for a graphics card! Is Kinguin a safe and legit source?

I have not used them personally, but hear of several people around here who have. It's basically just cheap Russian keys, no physical media. You just have to download the installer to a USB yourself directly from Microsoft then use the key provided from kinguin:

Edit: Also, I just realized the PSU in my build was a 350W....eww. Go with the one you picked instead, the 500W EVGA.

If I can convince him to do it I am going to suggest this build - does it sound good? Could I possibly do an AMD processor to get the total cost down? or maybe using the I5-4460 3.2 for 170?
    Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor - $209.99
    Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory - $29.99
    Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive -$46.89
EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply - $39.99
Thermaltake VL80001W2Z ATX Mid Tower Case - $37.99
    Asus H97-PLUS HDMI, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0 ATX DDR3 1600, LGA 1150 Motherboards(Already own)

Then I am going to buy a OS from Kinguin and order the Rx480.

Or since he only plays LoL and WoW can I save him alot of money and only spend around $100 on a graphics card

WoW will perform better on an intel CPU and if you choose to go AMD, you'd need a different motherboard anyway, so probably cheaper just to stick with the 4690 and will certainly perform better. As for the 4460, you could, but for WoW, the higher clock speed on the 4690 will make a difference.
