Can people still play on PTR if they are not currently subscribed to Live WoW?

I used to always try out big PTR patches even when my wow subscription was off, but i heard they changed it so only paying subbers can use PTR?

As I remember, PTR and Alpha/Beta do not require a Subscription in order to participate, or be invited for.

You can cheat the download a bit.

Start the dowload, wait for it to begin downloading when you get past the initlization / installation process, then copy your WoW folder. The PTR will pretty much just "patch" your client instead of re downloading a new one, assuming it can find the correct assets.

you can check it on the bnet site it will say there if you have an active ptr account

I think it just is a 20 gb download either way. My ptr was fully updated and playable yesterday before the servers went down.
