Sound of Silence- as Covered by Disturbed (Original by Simon & Garfunkel)

Better than the original? Tough call!

Most cover songs are also worse than the originals. Few are actually flat out better than their originals. George Harrison's While My Guitar Gently Weeps was done by the late great Jeff Healey, and when the original writer of the song says that your version is better, and it happens to be one of the fucking members of The Beatles, that means something. And well, there isn't a cover better than Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, and the original is god damn incredible in it's own right. Johnny Cash gets mad respect for his cover of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails, he made that song so much more raw.
That´s totally like... your opinion man.

I love this guy, he has a cover of More Than a Feeling by Boston that's also incredible.

Eh, I liked Within Temptation's cover better... But I might be biased, Within Temptation is one of my favorite bands.
A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don’t have one, you’ll probably never need one again.

It's good but I think it misses out on the feeling of emptiness of the original. The Disturbed version is a bit more theatrical but in doing so it loses that hollow simplicity that makes the original so haunting.

Johnny Cash - "Hurt" is another fine example.

Very true. Also, the guy on the top left looks so much like Claudio Sanchez so, in honor of the potential tribute, I'll post my favorite cover from them. Maybe not 'better' the original but definitely fits with the description in the picture, it's different and definitely not lower quality:

Coheed and Cambria - A Rush and a Push and the Land Is Ours (Cover), skip to 54 seconds in:

RIP Prince, but Incubus nailed Let's Go Crazy.

I like Seether's version of Careless Whisper more.

Oh, and Pearl Jam's "Last Kiss"? I always thought it was an original. It's not. And the original is garbage. Kind of upbeat for a song about a fatal car crash.

Punk bands tend to do a lot of covers, I don't know why. But New Found Glory does a good cover of "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer. I love the original too though.

Yes, it's apparently blasphemy, but I like The Ataris' version of Boys of Summer.

And 311's version of "Love Song".

I don't like saying one version is better than another though since it's music and to each their own. I'd probably listen to the Disturbed version before the S&G though.
just no, not all all, buddy cant sing at all. no harmonies. its offensive

Yes, but his cover of Personal Jesus was not as good as Marilyn Manson's and yet both were better than Depeche Mode.

I was thinking of them too, I think that cover is better, and I also prefer their cover of Land of Confusion to the original, though that could be I heard their version many times before I heard the first one.

The Postal Service did a pretty good cover of Against All Odds:

I'm partial to the Nirvana covers of Lake of Fire & Plateau over the original Meat Puppets version. Maybe the originals were intended to have a fast tempo and pacing, but it sounds so much better imo when Kurt Cobain enhances it with much more soul and emotion in his singing, along with the slower tempo of instruments. Meat Puppets version sound alright, but I just dont like that monotone singing. Without the Nirvana cover, I never would've enjoyed these songs as much as I do.
