Sound of Silence- as Covered by Disturbed (Original by Simon & Garfunkel)
Better than the original? Tough call!

Eh, I liked Within Temptation's cover better... But I might be biased, Within Temptation is one of my favorite bands.
A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don’t have one, you’ll probably never need one again.

Johnny Cash - "Hurt" is another fine example.
Very true. Also, the guy on the top left looks so much like Claudio Sanchez so, in honor of the potential tribute, I'll post my favorite cover from them. Maybe not 'better' the original but definitely fits with the description in the picture, it's different and definitely not lower quality:

Crematory - One (Metallica cover)
Primal Fear - Seek & Destroy
RIP Prince, but Incubus nailed Let's Go Crazy.
I like Seether's version of Careless Whisper more.
Oh, and Pearl Jam's "Last Kiss"? I always thought it was an original. It's not. And the original is garbage. Kind of upbeat for a song about a fatal car crash.
Punk bands tend to do a lot of covers, I don't know why. But New Found Glory does a good cover of "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer. I love the original too though.
Yes, it's apparently blasphemy, but I like The Ataris' version of Boys of Summer.
And 311's version of "Love Song".

The Postal Service did a pretty good cover of Against All Odds:

I also really liked Saul Williams cover of Sunday Bloody Sunday:

I'm partial to the Nirvana covers of Lake of Fire & Plateau over the original Meat Puppets version. Maybe the originals were intended to have a fast tempo and pacing, but it sounds so much better imo when Kurt Cobain enhances it with much more soul and emotion in his singing, along with the slower tempo of instruments. Meat Puppets version sound alright, but I just dont like that monotone singing. Without the Nirvana cover, I never would've enjoyed these songs as much as I do.
