What's the deal with single minded fury / weapon requirements?

So uh, I've noticed that currently on the PTR a lot of skills for melee classes require specific weapon type -- such as fury warrior skills requiring two two-handers, WW monk skills requiring one-handers, brew monk requiring two-handers, and frost dks requiring one-handers. Those feel like bugs / oversights, can someone in beta report them so maybe Blizzard takes a look and considers changing them?

Being locked into a single weapon type feels clunky and would really not do much for actual legion content due to artifacts, but it will hurt people who're leveling and just want to use the weapons their class was advertised as being able to use (such as if you're leveling a dk there really isn't too many str one-handers to go around, whereas viable 2-handers are plenty).

Also fury warriors still get one-handers in their personal loot on the PTR; The problem with that is A) Single-minded fury appears to be gone from the game (despite mmo-champion and wowhead still listing it as learned at level 38 in legion), B) the skills require two-handers to use.

    Artifact weapons.
    1) Load the amount of weight I would deadlift onto the bench
    2) Unrack
    3) Crank out 15 reps
    4) Be ashamed of constantly skipping leg day

It sucks, but since we will only be using a single weapon type at 110 because of the artifact weapons it is easier to simply disable the other types so you don't have to bother with balancing them. I still want the option of using 1hs as Fury though, or at least the ability to transmog my 2hs to 1hs.

OP already adressed this. It doesn't change much for Legion, but if pretty much forces people levelling into the same weapon type, making them unable to level with the weapons advertised for the classes. That's the issue, and I agree, it's an oversight from Blizzard that will inconvenience levelling even more.

Hopefully this is rectified. It's just an all around negative to remove options and flavour like this.

It will be. Wait until launch when the masses join and are annoyed that they are forced into certain weapon types. The official forums are going to be awesome

Blizzard just oozes with incompetence and ignornace and they will get punished again for it. They never learn.

A lot of oversights since WoD.......one may call that incompetence and not oversight when it happens reguarly.

It won't be. It's mostly because they found that trying to balance functionally different weapon types in the very narrow limits WoW players demand is pretty much impossible, so they just stopped bothering.

It doesn't change a whole lot anyway, as they mostly chose the options people were using due to aforementioned issue.

This is not a bug or oversight. They were changed on purpose.

What is that even supposed to mean? So it's the wow players fault that they want to use staves as WW monk? Wut?

Blizzard is lost beyound hope. The same people who made WoD and sold 6.1 as a content patch are the ones developing Legion.

They are also mostly the same ones as the ones that made MoP and WotLK.

Besides, that's not even a remotely reasonable interpretation of what i said.

Single Minded Fury is a thing of the past, it's being removed from the game entirely and you will have to use 2handers to play Fury in 7.0. Blizzard will send you 2x2h weapons roughly appropriate to your character level and average ilvl, via the mailbox.

SMF is currently well balanced with Titan Grip, it's not rocket science and balance has nothing to do with why they removed it. It's about the artifacts and class fantasy, balancing them is not hard to do.

There was a blue post a few weeks back where a Blizzard dev admits that they didnt think through the concept of artifact weapons well enough before starting on them. They initially thought that forcing certain weapons on people for a whole expansion would free up a lot of artist/coder time for other things. It was only after they had already commited to the notion that they realized how badly they had missjudged. They started seeing just how much work was going into the various class campaigns, how many things they had overlooked or just ignored, etc. They were focused so heavily on the new 100-110 experience that they didnt pay enough attention to how the Legion changes effect everything prior to that. Now they are in catchup mode trying to retrofit the L1-100 experience.
