    Reduced Zoom in Legion

So in Legion the console zoom commands like "/console CameraDistanceMaxFactor 4" is removed, they slightly increased the zoom range in the default UI options but not even close to what the console could do.

How will this affect something like raiding with huge ass bosses, encounters where people have to spread but as a healer you still want to be able to see everyone etc, what about meeles having 90% of their screen filled by a big dragon. Or just in general.

I've saw the blue post the other day, and all I can say is, I really hope this is some sort of extended practical joke by the Developers.

As a healer it doesn't matter whether you can see people or not if you are not a priest (I don't know if they have that life grip in Legion, though.) Because all you do when playing a healer is playing whack-a-mole with health bars, there's nothing else for you to look at except for your own movement and health bars.

Nonetheless, reduced zoom distance sounds like a sad loss.

This change really confuses me because this didn't hurt anyone and it helped a lot of people. There was literally no benefit to removing it and there are many downsides. Honestly this entire options pruning is the most baffling thing I've ever seen done in a video game. I can't think of a single legitimate reason for it.

His reasoning is that it needs to be equal for everyone...then why make it smaller. Just make the slider go to the real max.

Yeah because you dont have to pay attention to incoming fire waves and shit like that, right?

I thought something was off on the PTR. I could not get the camera to zoom out no matter what I did. Felt way to close for comfort.

Feels like they are trying their best to dictate how to play the game instead of letting people figure out what works best for them.

    Terrible change is terrible.

    He covered that

At the 3.4-CVar zoom level, your heroic Warcraft avatar takes up about as much screen-space as one of the dozens of marines you might control in a game of Starcraft.
I gotta say, as someone who currently uses max cam distance 4, I don't have a problem with this. I only use it occasionally... In certain raid situations. It really takes you out of the game, in a way, being zoomed out so dam far.

I've recently played some Guild Wars 2, and among the big pile of troubles it has one of the most striking ones was the zoom being awfully restricted.

Now with WoW going in this direction, I can't help but think this is a joke. I've played with zoom beyond the limits of the slider for many many years, and it feels awful to have to play zoomed in so close.

This sounds like a perfectly reasonable change if you read his post. The new max zoom is still plenty of distance away. Plus, with the larger draw distance of the new expansion, zooming out even further would create even more of an unfair advantage in situations like PvP.

Terrible change. Literally no benefit whatsoever. None.

One of the most damaging and nonsensical changes made to the game in recent memory. There's still time for it to be fixed, so I'd encourage everyone to voice their thoughts on the official forums. I threw up a thread in the general EU forum for those without US or beta access:

if you need to zoom out any more than that screenshot, you're doing something wrong

Hah... happier to be ranged than ever, but melee will be so sad with those huge ass bosses that block half your screen.

Bad change though, the reasoning may sound legitimate and it is when you look at it from his point of view, but on the other hand, it is certainly degrading QoL we are used to for many years now.

For me personally it is far worse change than any flying and such ever been.

No? As I said, you don't have to keep track of much except for health bars and your own movement, movement including things as avoiding flame waves and whatnot.

Deadly Boss Mods AddOn keep tracks of everything else for you by large sound warnings.

Slightly annoyed as a tank and raid leader. But I understand blizzard position, UI fairness should be a thing.

The maximum zoom distance was already more than enough.

That's, like, your opinion, man. Also, no, the zoom via console was enough. The zoom via options was not.

Worst change in legion so far. Seeing whats going on as melee was already difficult with the amount of spell effect, tons of pets and NPCs and a huge boss blocking half of my screen - i really dont get why they make it even more difficult with this change. Cant they just let the UI scale increase the camera distance up to 3.4 instead of locking it to 1.9 and let players decide how far they want their camera, not forcing them to use that distance.
