Wtf would I need a kettle for? I make my coffee via the Keurig and boil water on the stove for cooking.

What even is the benefit of a kettle over a pot+lid combo? Because it makes a whistling sound?

Electric-kettle for water to use with my presso, microwave for tea water as i drink green tea and it's easier to heat water to correct temperature in the micro

Microwave, just like making hot cocoa or oatmeal. Couldn't live without it.

If you're not using a kettle in the microwave, you're doing it wrong.

No, you dummy, after the microwave is on you need to put that inside the oven and set it to 220 degrees for best results. It is known.

I never thought of that. Explains why my water is hot on the inside, but fairly cold outside.

You can leave water in it, and just reheat as needed. I don't microwave water because I want hot water, not warmish water with scalding hot cups/whatever.

Also, I am fairly certain microwaving water to boiling is a bad idea.

Kettle. I don't even own a microwave. I don't like how it changes the taste in foods when reheating.

Microwave. An electric kettle may be as efficient, but would just be one more customized "appliance" to clutter the kitchen. Hot water is hot water.

My kettle boils water in 45 seconds, the stove takes at least 5 to 10 minutes for the same amount of water.

Microwave water can be pretty dangerous though. Microwaved water has a tendency to explode.

Yea, I saw a report on the water thing a long time back, but I've been microwaving water in my mugs for 20+ years and never had an issue.

I think it only happens if you heat to boiling temps and it's pure water (nothing added), even then unlikely to happen. Either way, I still prefer the kettle, I use a lot of boiling water when I cook and exploding water is not a risk I'm willing to take no mater how slim lol

I knew it was theoretically possible, if you can microwave soup and whatnot why not just water - but just didn't know of anyone who does that specifically to boil it.

A hot water dispenser that keeps my water at 98 Celsius for perfect green tea temps. What sort of savages use kettles and microwaves!?

lol seems people need to learn how to use their microwaves correctly.

Modern units with rotating trays, high power and sometimes even convection elements make them faster and more efficiant then any other device in your kitchen.
