I actually would rather have a draw for the group stage rather than pre-determined spots for the Round of 16. That way everyone will wanna go for first place to avoid being drawn into all the good teams.

Have a group of all first places from the group stage + the best second places, then a group with the remaining second places and maybe the best third place.

qualifiers are shit, tournaments are fun. there should be less qualifying and more tournament play

if they went with 32 teams they could have avoided the 3rd place going through crap
