Why are the off-topic sub-forums so popular?

These forums keep me alive at work more often than not You can normally have a fairly mature debate on these forums. Often you get kids making new accounts etc but the majority of the time it's kept on a good track by moderators!

MMO-C gen-ot is surprisingly diverse, in the sense that there are lots of people with different on opinions on most things here, unlike on most forums - which are usually dominated by an overwhelming majority who agree on almost everything, with maybe a tiny number of "that guy"s who appear in every thread to disagree with the majority and are mostly treated as a joke.

Though that's not to say that posters here don't treat each other as jokes... it just isn't as one-sided, which makes it more amusing to read.

I'm guessing it's probably mostly down to the moderators, since they wield the power necessary to force the userbase to comply. Although in spite of that, the diversity of the moderator staff doesn't seem as diverse as that of the userbase. You'd expect truly fair moderators to be accused both of being brown-people-hating xenophobic misogynists and of being immigrant-loving freedom-hating feminazis at the same time, but mostly they just seem to be accused of being the latter, which suggests an unhealthy bias in that direction. But most places are worse, so...

There's no getting out at this point... Though I mostly post about other gaming-related stuff on the video-games section. But I do read Gen-OT a lot and sometimes drop in an comment or an opinion or two.

It's just become a habit at this point.
