Agreed, but the school has an obligation of sorts to prevent this from happening, hence the suit against them having merit. The school let her walk around saying he raped her. Even if they don't condone her doing it, without stopping her they are liable for her actions

Views regarding Emma Sulkowicz are dependent on whether or not one thinks that she was actually raped. Clearly NOW believes that she was raped and was being brave by taking about her rape and demonstrating its effect on her via her performance art piece.

If you think that she made the whole thing up then of course you would think the award is ludicrous.


My opinion on the topic, not that it matters much, is that evidence either way is extremely vague. People are sexually assaulted in interpersonal relationships all of the time. Clearly she had feelings for the man, as evidenced in the texts that she sent him; her having feelings could mean that she was raped and she did not openly discuss it with him, or at least not via an electronic means. It could also mean that she is slightly crazy-pants and made the whole thing up.

Overall I still think that it is fully possible that something questionable happened, much of life tends to exist in a grey area and that is simply the state of things.
