I honestly dont see the "480 crossfire = 1080" happening. But hey it is cheap so shouldnt expect more. I will still go for the 1070 in October unless they announced the 1080ti by then (doubtfull) and I can get a cheap unwanted 1080 from some rich person wanting a 1080ti.

Nvidia is so freaking far ahead of AMD i actually am mad at myself in believing AMD could even come out with a good budget card. Ugh.
I noticed I said bitch and ment big so typo on that

Replying: And what you don't get is we DO NOT know the price of the 1060. If its $300 or more then its not in the same price bracket as the RX 480. There is no $200 video card that beats the RX 480 and I highly dough the 1060 will be $200.

To add if the performance is true about Crossfiring it then that is $400 for a video card with the performance of a $600 video card.

Well they did say 2x 480 = 1080 in AotS. As the benchmarks show the 480 is okay in dx12 games, in dx11 games 2x 480 are nowhere close 1080

Yep, People keep saying the 1060 is going to destory it and that may be true. But if its priced too high it isn't going to matter one bit.

This is clearly a budget VR/Gaming PC video card.

It wont be more than 249.00 thats the most a 60 series card has ever been.

Until it comes out we won't know.

If it is $250 then ya ur right its pointless to get the RX 480. Spend the extra $50 and get a card that mite be 2x performance of it.

Until we have benchmarks its best to not assume.

If the GTX 1060 is $300+ its not a budget video card. Also if Nivida makes them a bitch to get that will matter as well. Look at the prices of the 1070/1080 because they are a bitch to get.

well they did increase the prices of the x70 and x80 compared to last generation quite a bit, so why wouldn't they increase the x60 price along with it?

That's exactly what happened. I don't think the Ashes benchmark helped with it 'beating' the 1080 either.

Crossfire 480s are closer to the 1070, unless it's w/o non-scaling games, then it gets close to the 1080, but only at 4k. At 1080p, it's pretty far behind, and still behind the 1070 as well. Maybe with OCs Crossfire 480s can keep up with a single 1070 for about the same price.

I still can't figure out if i shall buy rx480 or 390 or 970 for my system seeing it's more or less on same price and I can't really expand it? What would be best choise if i have Benq XL2411z 144hz monitor and not going to acquire any bigger than 1920x1080? I5 3470, win 7x64, 8GB (1600) DDR3 ram

They priced the 1070/1080 that way because AMD has no competition, they cant price the 60 card that way...

If you can find a 480 for 199.00 buy it, otherwise buy a used 970 imo.

Yeah this wasn't the smartest decision really. If the card was meant to be mid-ranged why on earth would you ever compare it with the flagship model of Nvidia? That
's only going to make people think that 480 must be it's competitor then, no matter that it was meant as crossfire and in a single game.

This is really stupid advice. You never recommend someone buying a used video card (or really any used PC part).

If you can't get a RX 480 then its best to save up the $170-$200 more and get a GTX 1070. If your really hurting for a video card mine is on sell for $300.

No sense in spending $100 more for a video card of the same performance when you can spend $150-$170 and get one that is way better.

Also its stupid to buy used.

AMD is banking on DX 12 adaption rate speeding up.. And with Microsoft announcing their play anywhere program, they seem to be right.

    Obviously?

What's your point? The 480 is the equivalent of a 380 and is supposed to substitute it. It's between a 370X and a 380 in die size and priced accordingly.

I should have been more clear, buy a 480 for 199.00 or buy an EVGA used 970. (warranty transfers, i forget its not common knowledge EVGA is the ONLY brand you buy used). As an aside i plan on buying a 1070 but who are you to say they have that extra money, they explicitly stated they had 3 cards in mind and none of those are anywhere near the cost of a 1070.

Artorious your problem is you have an issue differentiating reality from fantasy. Yes of course nvidia holds back cards, amd does as well but you keep harping on this shit like it matters, WE CANT BUY IT SO IT DONT MATTER WHAT DIE SIZE IT IS.

I was more so talking about people in general not the person u was replying to.

My point was telling someone to buy used is a stupid idea. If what you said about EVGA is true (never used them) then that is great providing the card they get is still under a warranty.

I still wouldn't buy used even knowing that, But that is me.

Yes, any and every EVGA card sold in the US has a fully transferable warranty (you actually dont have to do anything, the card is warrantied not the purchaser).
