Sometimes I think it would easier if we would just let the South go. They're the least educated and the majority of the South is incredibly poor. I'd feel bad for the people that wanted to stay... But I don't see us ever letting them go.

    No it doesn't.

Yeah, one of the most powerful nations (if not the most powerful) on the planet should just "dissolve." Makes a ton of sense.

States are not countries of the USA.
The Eu is not a country but a political/economical body of government that represents other countries.

    Quite a big difference.

Please... please... please, support Southern independence, because as a Southerner, I, like millions of individuals across the South, would love nothing more than to break away from the Union. Honestly, I don't know why I'm even bothering to respond to this post.
Yes please leave. Texas' back might break from carrying the rest of you economically, but I would LOVE nothing more than to see what you would become without the rest of the US.

They want to leave, personally I think we should let them.

It won't happen. The States don't have a real military. National guard is like the backup ppl for the main army.

No, it's very illegal to do so.

Or not. Considering this union is, you know, perpetual.

Most of Illinois just wants to rid itself of Chicago, not the whole country.

Texas is a prime example of why this is a legitimate question. Them wanting to leave the USA proves that at least in some part, the USA doesn't work as a policy setting government.

Each member state gives up certain rights to agree to the policies set by the United States, and I think this is a HUGE negative.

Or, should the United States become a large country, and each member state would be a state within that country no longer identified as a state? This would mean each state would have to give up even more rights and identity as a state to become a part of one large centrally ruled country.

    Thoughts?
Heh, I was thinking of starting this thread after the dumbass version about the UK.

In all seriousness though, yes, the USA should dissolve!!!

If the United States ceases to be an entity then more than likely it would just dematerialise.

But there's a thought; any state that exits the US must acquire 1/50th of the national debt.

funny thing about that list it has South Dakota as #4 on the state side which is funny because we don't pay state taxes other than sales tax. Now, the casino's that are in every gas station in the state I assume float a lot of the taxes the state does get.

Apart from the original 13 colonies, every other state was once the federal government's land first.
