Not a fan of the class thematically. I am glad it exists though.

I like the Monk's playstyle a lot, especially the Legion cleaned-up Windwalker, but I never managed to main one mainly because of Pandas.

Monks in WoW are treated as the "silly" class, they lack the epicness of a paladin or a druid for some reason, their flavor is based on the "fun" factor of chug some beer throw some punches. And even now, they are mostly connected to Pandas, similar to how Demon Hunters are connected to the Elves.

I would like to main a WW in Legion since the playstyle is so appealing to me, I like the hit and run concept, their self healing, their reliable aoe without needing talents, their Rising Sun Kick, their green spell color and their unique CDs. However, not only Monks lack the epic element -on the contrary, their is an emphasis on the "silly" element in Legion from what I've seen- they are also the only class to have no new animations. Blizzard is trying to create as little new effects as possible for monks, even for the new spells (Chi Orbit uses the Chi Wave+Chi Burst animation, Tiger Palm still hides your fists until the animation finishes, not a single spell becomes updated, etc.). Even the new Tier reuses old chest and pants models.

I'd try to overlook the things I mentioned above, but the Class Hall is beyond me. They destroyed the beautiful Peak of Serenity, which had strong Monk influence, to give us a Panda race specific temple for some weird reason. It even has an inn with the silly music, which imo is the worst piece of music ever added to an epic game like WoW.

Mists of Pandaria was cool, flavorful and all, but now, 4 years later, it's Legion. How are we supposed to save the world listening to tap tap music, drinking beer and partying on a lost wandering isle that is the last place to get hit by the demons? YOLO I guess.

I think this had a lot to due with it. DK's were overpowered and started high level. They were a hero class. Monks were just that...monks. But they were REALLY fun in MoP, but terrible in WoD. DH's will be hero class and start at 98. People just didn't want to level a new class even though they had the 50% exp boost.

Legion seems to have turned things around though and I look to be playing mine again quite a bit.

Yeah I do agree with this. I really liked MoP and the Pandarian theme, but never really had time to level a monk. I started to level in WoD, but I just got sick of the expansion after BRF was out for a few months and quit. However, after seeing Preach's video on the WW Monk a few days ago, I decided to give it a shot on my gf's beta account. This may be my new main. Being a WW monk really does make you feel like being an awesome monk, flying around and kicking the shit out of people.

I mained a monk all mop, from day 1, till i quit during wod, i let it sit on the side burner for a bit during wod while i played my boosted character and another char on alliance but my monk will always be my main.

edit: for some reason i typed quit during legion, is that a sign..

I hate the class thematically. There is no getting around that - doomed by association to mop.

Shamans have some really badass lore and had extremely good gameplay in Mop. Ele was literally a cannon of lava bursts and lightning bolts and enh had extremely good burst dps. I believe enh had the best burst during mop. In legion they look even better, they are one of the few classes that blizzard really did well on. WoD was an unfortunate time for many classes so I wont even bring that up.

How can you not consider a class that has control over fire, earth, water, and air elements and from a lore standpoint can shatter the ground a real class? Monks I understand since if you look at them realistically or thematically they would get destroyed by most classes, but shamans? Cant get more badass than that. Obviously this is heavily opinionated but my point still stands.

They're heavily associated with Pandarens, a species I despise.
I've only tried WW but their rotation was way too convoluted for my taste, so much that I'd call them the epitome of button bloat.
This is just absurd. Do you realize how retarded that sounds?

I think it's a load of horseshit when people complain that monks have to level from lvl 1. Every class except DK snf DH start at lvl 1. By this logic, DKs are all you should see people playing and nobody should have alts since they'd have to level them from lvl 1.

I have 3 monks, myself (all BM/WW). Two are 100 and one is 80. And it takes no time to lvl 1-100 now. The second monk I leveled, I got to max the third night I played him and the only time I used an xp potion was once I hit Gorgrond.

I think people don't play them because they don't take the time to learn the playstyle, it's a lot more "hybrid" than even other hybrid classes. During MoP, there weren't many monks, especially WW in BGs/RBGs/Arenas and a lot of people didn't seem to know how to counter them very well. You had amazing off-heals, great mobility, good cc, plenty utility...the only drawback was the slow ramp-up for your burst. But I spent a ton of time helping my brother and other guildies gear their alts through 2s and 3s. WW monk is amazing at 1v2 and anytime an arena came down to a 1v1, no other class stood any chance at all. It was a lot fun but I switched back to my Warrior, DK and Paladins throughout most of WoD. Really liking the WW monk on PTR so I'll likely play them again in Legion.

I rolled up a Monk straight away, but found myself most interested in the Healing spec over the other two. Never really did figure out how to Brewmaster effectively.

Overall I really liked MoP. One of the best expansions IMO.

You find it "absurd and retarded" that I dislike the theme of a class?

Brewmasters had a higher skill cap compared to other tanks, Windwalker was seen as weak and competed with Rogue for gear (Rogue being much more established), and Mistweaver has been overshadowed by Druid for the same reasons Windwalker was overshadowed by Rogue.

As a result, Monk has seen the least amount of play (many similar sources, here's one http://www.worldofwargraphs.com/global-stats/classes).

In addition to the above, DH now also competes BrM and WW for gear, and is extremely fun to play. So...I don't see this changing any time soon.

Um, what's absurd about it exactly? He doesn't like pandaren which he is free not to like and the monk class is 100% panda themed.

It has to do with both the playstyle and class itself for me. I'm not a fan of Windwalker or Brewmaster (I don't really heal so don't have much to say about Mistweaver), and I was never a big fan of the whole Monk idea in the first place. I understand that it's a well designed class but I personally found it underwhelming and thus have avoided leveling one to the max level.

Loved the monk during MoP as BrM main spec and WW second spec. Was fun, fast and engaging.

WoD imo killed every aspect that made monks fun (for the 2 spec, never into MW) and legion beta. Playing main tank for my guild, I tried every tank in the beta and monks look disgusting to play. Really. The model may work in PVE, buts its a real pain in the ass to level as BrM (gg having a spec with a constant self inflicted dot on and no healer to carry you).

So yeah, monk is dead to me. Sad as I love the theme and loved the class.

Personally for me, I love my Pandaren Monk, I play Brewmaster and I have a lot of fun tanking with it, not sure if I like some of the changes coming to Brewmaster in Legion, might take a while to get used to since I won't be reliant on Guard anymore, lol, but I understand why some people don't play them, and there's nothing wrong with that, it's all opinion anyway on if you like or hate a class, that's just my 2 cents on the Monk

I already had more characters than I could keep up with by the time monks came along, and I'm playing even fewer today than I was then. I'm pretty much ignoring DHs for the same reason. Nothing against them, but I've got all I can manage with the characters I've already leveled.
