I highly doubt this. In raids, on ultra @ 2560-1600 i rarely go above 40 with a 1080

Also in reference to what thunterman said. The 1080 is the best single perfomance card period.

$10 you guys are turning down your image scaling sub 100% within WoW. Doing that will net you massive fps.

Unless you are showing a fraps fps screenshot, it's quite hard to believe.

This is why I mentioned the 980ti being better than the 1080....

Allot of reviewers tested on test benches, open airflow = way lower temps = massive boosts = un-realistic benchmark scores. I trust only 1 reviewer, he puts GPU's in the exact same build, in a normal case and then he benchmarks them. His results were substantially lower than the majorities because the 1080 thermal throttles in realistic scenarios. Same can't be said about aftermarket cards, but not much has been said about them yet.

both should max wow but asking for 90fps may be pushing it at 60 would be more then enough at 4k

Alright I threw this build together this is your best bet at running wow 4k at (high) settings making no promises of ultra at 4k. Swap out the Founders Edition 1080 with a custom card by MSI or anyone really. You'll want to overclock the 6700k to get the best FPS you possibley can. Outside of that if it doesn't run it at 4k ultra settings atleast you'll have a beast PC. And you can turn down your settings a bit in WoW to run at 4k.

@Ulminia SLI 1070s is a bad idea being that most games don't fully support SLI. Plus it's always better to buy a single stronger card over two weaker cards.

    Here you go

for some reason taking a screenshot made me drop about 40 FPS. I usually sit around 120 outside of raids, and bounce between 80-90 in raids. Atleast it shows my settings accurately....

  9. #29
Not in the open world, i can tell you that much. In legion in can't get more than 50 fps in any of the zones with a gtx 1080. Good luck getting anywhere near 45 in a place like Valsharah or whatever its called. I can definitely run the game on ultra but its 2560x1440 resolution not 4k, and im not getting 60 fps unless i'm in an instance...

Yeah that's just not true. 1080 is a better card period, even at the base clock it goes much higher than a 980ti unless you hit the lottery with a perfect binned 980ti and you overclock the thing to some insane amount. And assuming you have any decent case with 2 case fans your temps aren't going to be an issue with an aftermarket card. Founders Edition is a blower style cooler so it will have hotter card temps lower case temps. A normal dual fan exausting into the case type cooler on the GPU will lower your card temps but raise your case temps not really an issue in most cases. And people are overclocking their 1080s with almost no issues at all.

well for one, your shadow settings are not set to ultra, which is why your setting is classed as custom. Set the slider to ultra and don't touch shit... also, go sit in city, not flying with prob zero people around.

prob being a bit picky, but in terms of bringing it back to OP, he wants to run wow on ultra @ 4k. doing so is going to need some serious power if he expects to do so in raids or even pvp (other than arena)

I dont even think the latest HDMI 2.X and DP 1.4x standards have enough bandwidth in the cables to do 4k at more than 60fps.
    doesn't the gtx 1080 run 8k at 30 or 60 fps with dp1.3 or 1.4?

edit: 7680x4320 at 60 Hz RGB 8-bit with dual DisplayPort connectors or 7680x4320 at 60 Hz YUV420 8-bit with one DisplayPort 1.3 connector.

What the card supports and what the tv/monitor/your favorite display device supports is two different things.

Not ur being picky, its easy to get 1k fps when you look at the floor....

There is no PC running WoW ultra 4k/60fps, even more so in the budget OP has.. Hell we barely get 60fps in 4k as it is.

You are not getting and maintaining 60 FPS in raids..There is not any consumer CPU capable of maintaining it the entire time while raiding, and its only going to be even more impossible in Legion, seeing as there are 3 new settings higher than current Ultra coming.

    6600k at 4.8ghz, manages fine.

In regards to settings, reinstalled windows last week and geforce experiance keeps "optimising" need to turn it off.

Whether you believe me or not, it's the case, and I seriously don't care. If your struggling with fps on a decent system then you have the good old combat bug. Turn optimise network for speed off, set high priorit in task manager, your performance will skyrocket. It's not even close to being as heavy hitting as people claim. My fps doesn't drop in city's or raids..

CPU > GPU for WoW until they bring in DX12 and the load gets shifted onto the GPU.

I went from a GTX 670 PE to a GTX 980Ti STRIX and saw barely any FPS increase. Going from a i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz to a i7 6700k @4.6ghz made a huge difference. Also my friend runs an older i7 @4.6ghz with a GTX 970 and runs 4k in raids on this 50inch TV with no issues.

    *Max settings obviously

You can make all the claims you want. It is a well-known fact that it is impossible to maintain 60 FPS in Mythic raids. Period.

There has never been anyone able to prove otherwise via video footage during a Mythic raid run.

So stop trying to claim you have this magical PC that can do what no other in the world has been able to do.

edit, aren't just his base settings too? Haven't dicked around in WoW in a while, but there's a raids/bg's tab in graphics too

It can be done, so to everyone saying 4k/UHD at 60 fps (and in a raid) can't be done - here's your hat, feel free to eat it.

His specs are further down the thread too.

    2) Unrack
    3) Crank out 15 reps
    4) Be ashamed of constantly skipping leg day
