Just gonna put this down again... Comparison test of different coolers for the 1080 (which you could extrapolate to the 1070 as well).
Palit/Gainward have the best cooler, just remember they are 2,5 slots big.

Cant wait to buy it....in 2022. xD
I've finally decided a date to pick up the GTX 1080.
Will be on August 30th. Prices should be balanced by then and at the end of the month with the paycheck will make it easy to pay for it.
Going with either EVGA or MSI, gonna switch it out for my GTX 970. My reason is because I've switched to a 3440x1440 and the 970 isn't holding it's own in the likes of Witcher 3.
I don't think there are many differences at the moment regarding OCing between the chips. Nvidia has a tight control on the voltages etc. Everything I have read so far is pointing to a hard wall at around 2.1+ Ghz.... That is with little voltage control Afterburner gives.
Guys, help please!
I'm in the process of updating the rig in my signature, getting z170 mobo, DDR4, 6600k with a slight clock (for now).
Should I jump on the 1080 for MAXIMUM POWER or save some cash and get the 1070?
Mainly going to play newest games on ultra at 1080p (maaaybe 1440p in the distant future). Was certainly hoping at 144hz Gsync monitor so that makes me think of the 1080 even more.. is it worth it? Please help me with my dilemma! <3

If you got the money and can find an aftermarket 1080 for around 599.00 id jump on it.

I'd seen about this article on Fudzilla already and a couple of other lesser sites previously. Basically, it looks as though "Volta" may be out May, next year. And considering it's basically going to be 16nm, potentially with HBM2 on board, it's as I'd previously assumed, likely to be the real Pascal. It's most likely going to be another row of 30% upgrades and is the type of release that gives Nvidia's marketing board a giant erection. Year on year upgrades. They're going to tout it as being Volta next year, while more than likely just making full use of the /real/ Pascal tech, finally. Then in 2018, they can release the actual Volta cards under yet another name.

How about 899 euro for an after-market 1080 :/
I wouldn't trust wccftech for rumors at all, anyone remember the 1600Mhz overclock RX480? When almost all AIB cards struggle to get over 1400Mhz if they are lucky. Also "Pascal in the form of GP104 isn't really Pascal"? Give me a break.

Well, he said nothing about the RAM, and it's not the RAM that hes noting, it's the power of the overall card. 2560x1440@144Hz is extremely demanding. Arguably more demanding than 3840x2160@60Hz. And it's really silly to think RAM capacity has much to do with performance. It only helps when you actually do need it, and you'll know when you do need it, because the performance goes into the single digits.
Again: you're saying that a 1070 cannot support 1440? When lower tier cards have been doing it since before the inception of the 1070?
