Yeah some specs and classes go through the ups and downs, but consistently Ret is crap in end game. Time and time again they're only brought for niche purposes and thats about it. The last expac where ret could be at the top with the rest of the dps without some stupid glitch or exploit is the end of WTLK, and even then the usual classes out ranked them.

People then like to bring up that ret isn't top dps because its a hybrid class, yet druids the hybrid close to them does consistently well in dps in almost every expac.

After what happen with Ret and Gurthtalak in Dragon Soul I've given up ever having faith that blizz even likes ret, the same patch that had arms wars and many other melee have extra procs from mastery and their basic mechanics. Yet the seal that was part of our basic mechanics and was basic filler somehow was to op with it.

To stay with this topic though, its the same as many here I've played it for a long time and have the most accomplished on it.

Ret is a fine spec. It isn't the best dps spec, but that is reserved for pure dps. I will play it because I like being a Paladin and smashing faces is fun.

This part of your post is aids thinking. This isn't vanilla. There's not supposed to be a difference between "pure" dps and "hybrid" dps anymore.

I personally don't like much about the new ret in legion but I'll stick with it since it's the only main I've ever had. I made it back in vanilla and I just can't bring myself to change main.. I think I'd probably quit the game instead of getting a new main because of all the time and effort I've put in to my character.

That is not reserved to pure DPS. It just happened that mages were overlords for the longest time (wich has to do with arcane), but there is no rule that says that will continue.

I like the paladin theme: a knight with group support. I'm no longer super competitive in WoW PvE or PvP, so as long as it's fun and is "good enough", I won't re-roll.

Whatever class I end up going to, I always return to my first true "main". Sorry Legion, but we're going to have a tête a tête with one head being yours and the other the Ashbringer.

I am with ya on the class fantasy, I just don't see any support in Ret anymore. I mean we have BoP and very light heals, that seems about it. We can't even change out our greater blessings in combat :\

They are over tuned beast atm. If you like playing a melee caster that's the iwin class.

I completely agree with the lack of support. Too much was removed or made far too passive. I don't think any Ret paladin likes greater blessings. Hopefully it gets re-worked in 7.1.

This. True rets played during cata. They've seen some bad shit. Nothing can hurt them again.

And honestly, playing the beta. Ret is ok. You may not like the collusus smash style. But the falling sky scenario some youtubers are painting is plain stupid.

I also really like the meaningfull blessings.

Ashbringer. That's it. Otherwise I'm barely even touching my Ret pally.

It's one of the most iconic classes in the game, and it's the closest thing I like compared to my retired warrior.

    Also, Ashbringer.

I will play it because I'm a Paladin at heart. I've loved the class since TBC, had my Paladin since then. Okay, the community is VERY divided with the new play-style but I personally think it's more interesting than the current "hit anything that's not on CD then FV" playstyle. We'll get used to it, Blizz will tune numbers/make changes as required. What I don't appreciate is Youtubers scare-mongering and throwing napalm on the fire. Cheers Preacher, looking at you. Douchebag.

Well, usually i would agree, but not when those "Echo chambers" produce insightful feedback about current state of retribution, showing numbers, logical inductions and not adressed weaknesses/bugs.

100+ pages on retribution are not like "hurr durr nerf everything buff us because reasons!", but there are many well thought suggestions, possible improvements and... feedback, like

So, you are simply wrong. I like changes but when those changes are needed and well thought. But what we received now is slightly reworked arms warrior gameplay. What is new here? Not to mention that this arms warrior gameplay was already bad and pretty much no-go in the past, so what is the point of rehashing old and bad solutions? None i suppose. Not to mention that this "haste will solve things" attitude which in close future will exchange those "judgement windows dmg" with passive all the time dmg to afflicted target (still crippling target swapping as long as Judgement is on CD). About close to zero mobility i won't even speak. What is refreshing here?

About the topic, cause I've played it since TBC and doesn't want to give up now, but it will be the second time in wow's history that I would dislike ret paladin playstyle. First being launch of cata ( I was too noob in tbc to know how bad was ret back then, so not counting it)
    EDIT:

Hyhyhy, yea, "broken" enh shaman now, pure dps class. DK, another pure of the purest DPS class. Balance/feral dudu (this first spec in general EVERY expansion) another great example of pure class. DH maybe then?

    Damn those pure dps classes!

Simple, because I played it since a month or so before TBC.

    I'm a masochist.

I'm also hoping it's not as bad as the launch of Cata. THAT was bad.
