I mean I don't know. Only cemaat followers (Islamists) are so devoted. I mean coup has failed, yet they are still resisting. What's the point? This isn't Kemalists, that's for sure. They, under no circumstances, would bomb the Grand Assembly building. Judging by the history, Turkish Army tries coup, if they fail, they just stop. Never read/seen anything like this...

Do you honestly think that any group of people who took this on did not have a contingency for: "We're in charge now!", "Oh no you're not!"? Unless it was a only small faction of deluded wingnuts (one loyalist source is claiming only 140 odd members of a unit were involved), I'd expect they would have committed to a long haul contingency if it was necessary and it was a wide conspiracy. The reason they are smashing the fuck out of bunkers is most likely to stop any pro loyalist reporting. The one target they went hard and fast at from the outset seems to be the intelligence agency.

In all likelihood this is something that will be resolved by the morning or in a month but perhaps at no point in between. Most of the rank and file wouldn't have known what the fuck was going on until a few hours ago.

I hope the matter is resolved as quickly as possible but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it drags on.

I dont think the coup is as small as some are reporting the military is not doing much to stop it and the parliament building has been bombed 3 times now reportedly by jets.

When trying to stop an armed military coup from taking place as a civilian, it's taking a gamble on whether the military have it in them to start shooting people who oppose them. Turns out they did. I think Erdogan knew this when he was calling for their support.

Well, I mean this would be an easy question in older times. Historically, if coups succeed, the rulers (Sultan/politician) would be hanged. If coup fails, the soldiers were hanged, but now we ban capital punishment, I just don't know.

When people with guns stand up to people with guns, usually more civilians are slaughtered. Nothing worse than being caught in the middle of two battling groups. And, in case of Syria, for example, it is even three groups.
