I remember as a kid I was in for my appendix I think it was. I had a pizza so damn awful and just fucking salty it made my throw up almost immediately and I have a pretty strong stomach. That's Murrica. And he said it was complained about and being looked into.

Not sure what's particularly remarkable about this.

//no such thing as free healthcare//

Obviously, we all know this. But if you expand your mind just slightly, you will understand that words often have complex meanings. And these words, when we talk about "free healthcare" we are talking about tax payer funded healthcare. The kind you don't have to pay every single time, out of your own pocket, when you go to hospital.

This is such a tired response.

Most people who visit or stay at the hospital would rather eat from those nice sandwich vending machines which ruins the point of hiring people who can actually cook in the first place.

I work in a American hospital, and have been at several different hospitals too. Generally the food sucks, but there are some exceptions.

Well excluding toast as that really depends on the right spread, and diluted juice as I’ve yet to find any group that makes any serious amounts of the stuff who don’t over dilute it. I’ve never had a bad hospital meal, last one was smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, and wheaten bread.. and I’m a British NHS lifer. But then I don’t really judge my healthcare on what happens to be possible for them to get on the menu that particular day, as I’m more concerned about having my health looked after. Yes there are hospitals on the NHS I’d never want to have to visit, but then I know a fair few horror stories when it comes to private medicine too. I’ve been referred to private specialists a fair few times, and there is no real difference between the two. Superfical things, like the comfier chairs in the waiting room and no NHS posters on the walls. The care and attention was the exact same, though maybe I got lucky and missed every single bad doctor out there. But I could probably say my life would’ve been a fair bit more painful had there been no NHS, and most of the time I’m more worried about why there’s a hole to my gum line where my cheek use to join the lip over what’s for lunch. Ok that’s a lie, my mother was more worried about that.. all I'll stay about that is.. Starcream is just as treacherous as a toy as he was in the show.

Must not be a medical emergency. if you don't want to wait in line then go to the US to pay to fix it. I'd rather have waistlines based on triage rather than who has the most money.

Our hospitals are amazing. I am grateful to be living here and able to access free healthcare at world class hospitals.

Hospital food and some other things tend to be bad, regardless of whether the healthcare system is public, or private, or mixed. The thing is, when a person needs medical treatment, they have to go to a hospital - simple as that. They can't say, "Well, all hospitals are bad, so I won't use their services" - they HAVE to use their services. As such, hospitals do not have to care about things like quality of food, Internet, etc.: people still will use their services, even if they complain at the same time.

Private healthcare has the advantage in this regard, since when you have real competition with other hospitals, you have to improve yours, since otherwise people will just use better hospitals and abandon yours after reading reviews in the Internet. However, better hospitals also tend to be more expensive, so, again, poor people will be "grounded" and have to eat whatever the hospital offers.

The only way I can see it fixed is the government imposing strict quality standards. Regular inspections of food quality in hospitals and taking actions against those that do not have it high would work.

Having visited Miami Children's Hospital many times as a kid and still now with my kid brother, everything about the hospital screams 5 star...but the food makes fast food taste like a gourmet in comparison.

Something about hospital and school cafeteria food that is consistently terrible.

    Yes. More straw man arguments!!

Because universal health care is described in all serious documents as "free"...

    /facepalm

In regards to the article, have you ever eaten hospital food in the US? Despite costing much, much, much more than in countries with universal healthcare, it sucks just as much.

I haven't tasted hospital food in the us or here in the uk, because I've been fortunate enough to not require a stay in hospital. That said I'm more than happy to contribute to a free-at-point-of-service healthcare system as it benefits all in our society.
It is a strawman because you're purposefully misrepresenting someones arguments. Everyone KNOWS it's paid through taxes.

    https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/strawman

By exaggerating, misrepresenting, or just completely fabricating someone's argument, it's much easier to present your own position as being reasonable, but this kind of dishonesty serves to undermine honest rational debate.
"It's not free" is the very definition of a strawman argument. lol

It depends on the hospital. My wife had to go to Brigham and Women's in Boston for abdominal pains and surgery and after they let her eat solid food again the food they gave her was actually pretty decent. Plus there was an Au Bon Pain on the ground floor.

A specific treatment the receiver gets is free for them. Of course "free" doesn't mean it appears from vacuum miraculously.

Hospital food, while didn't come in many varieties, was pretty palatable at where I live.

I'm sure everyone can get lucky and have the best at a country at the bottom and worse experiences in those listed at the top of the charts, but overall looking at the data Canada is stuck in mediocre range with the the US in the 30's range. (but cheer up you're in the top of the 30's lol )

    Top 30 out of 190 isn't bad.

Our health care system is definitely not the best, but it could be far, far worse.

I'm curious how it determines the ranking for Canada since health care is at a provincial level and each province has a different system.

Going off that 37(US) out of 190 is not bad either, to point out who I was responding to in general the "barely any other countries can say the same" should be 29 other countries can same the same or better lol....
